Hotel Meudon

The views may be picturesque and the hotel beautiful however the staff are rude. Four emails and a letter to the manager of the hotel all ignore.

This is a lovely hotel you must stay here !! we stayed here for one night for our silver wedding anniversary as we had our wedding reception here 25 years ago . The hotel is beautiful, has definitely been updated in the last 25 years . All staff were friendly and welcoming , food was superb and we were surprised with a bottle of Prosecco and a card from the hotel in our room . The garden room we stayed in was spacious , really clean and a comfy bed , lovely to be able to walk out into the gardens from our room . The gardens are beautiful and enchanting with established plants and different pathways to explore . This is proper Cornwall , peaceful, relaxed and friendly. We would definitely stay again , great value for money .

We have just returned from a week at this lovely quirky hotel.Janice C’s review describes it splendidly. The bed was comfortable, the food delicious. The gardens and walk to the beach amazing. However what makes this a 5 star hotel are the staff. They are all so cheerful and welcoming. They were like good friends by the time we left. Thank you again to all. We hope to return one day.

Loved this place from the moment we arrived till I went to bed. The room was absolutely stunning and the gardens are mesmerising. The walk down to the beach is awesome and the views down there are first class and we enjoyed a few drinks overlooking the ocean. Dinner was chaotic and the food was ok and I would have given the hotel 5 stars and we were talking of returning. Sadly the moment I got into bed it was clear that the bedding was old and lumpy and I was awake every few hours tossing and turning. In the morning I read the reviews on here of the pillows etc and it was clear the hotel has an issue with old knacked pillows or soft which is the same to me. I asked reception to send 4 new pillows and a duvet. Soon after I was offered 2 pillows that looked even older. I asked for new and was told the hotel had none. They produced more and 2 were terrible. I said why can't the hotel buy new ones and I was offered to speak to the manager. In the end reception sent 12 used pillows and we managed to get 6 ok ones. This whole episode with a simple request for pillows I decided not to ask again for a new duvet. The same happened in Tokyo in Jan and they bought 4 new pillows in 5 mins. So this hotel has a serious problem. It isn't the cleaning staff as they don't have spare pillows and duvets to replace. It is clearly the manager who has broken the golden rule. There is no point in providing a stunning hotel room in a fabulous location if the pillows and duvet are old lumpy and should have been changed years ago. It is probably due to cost but it's a false economy as people who stay probably avoid coming back without stating why. We will never come back now as horrid sleep is terrible. The manager should inspect every room themselves and change every knacked piece of bedding and maybe turn off the heating if they want to save money.

On arrival to the Reception we rang the Bell for Service twice and my husband called the main landline - no response. A member of Staff came to check us in eventually after 20 minutes. This was our 3rd stay at Meudon and have to say our most disappointing experience as guests so far. Our bedroom had lack of attention to detail, windows were very dusty and finger marked from previous guests and our bedlinen had holes in it. Bathroom tired and needs replacing. The Cocktails aren’t made with premium brands as we have had in the past, no offers of any nibbles as we have had before. Very sad to see this when we have paid for what was meant to be a luxury experience and break for ourselves. I doubt we’ll return now but sincerely hope that the owners will take note of comments here and turn this hotel around.

You do wonder about the management of this place. The previous reviews have said it all regarding service issues, but no one appears to be listening. If you haven't got enough staff why don't you do simple things like have salt and pepper on every table so that customers don't have to ask for it? Booked for 3 nights but when they ran out of items on the menu on the 2nd night it was time to visit the nearby Red Lion which I would recommend. Back to Meudon and our best meal was a pizza from the Bream box, surprisingly good. I do hope they can up their game but the big question is whether management are happy with the current situation and whether they are actually capable of raising standards.
