This is a historically important location in Matheran. Ratheesh and his business partner were so welcoming and helpful and the accommodation is so full of character. For a truly “green” and unique stay in a totally unique location, the Verandah in the Forest is absolutely a must. This is undoubtedly the place to stay in Matheran if you can get a room - would suggest booking early so as not to miss the chance to stay here - and is so much more than a hotel.
Food was superb and because of the size and layout, never seemed busy. Quiet and relaxing stay.
As there’s no phone signal in Matheran Hill Station I’d suggest contacting Ratheesh before making the ascent to the hill station for location instructions. There is wi-fi at the Verandah in the Forest.

Dune Barr House in Matheran is an absolute gem.. steeped in history, beautifully maintained & wrapped in the charm of a bygone era. My partner & I spent the weekend here. The Heritage Supr. Room was a beautiful, with its poster bed, antique furniture & spacious 19th century interiors that made us feel like we had stepped into another time. The place is immaculately kept, blending old world elegance with just the right touch of modern comfort. The verandah, of course is the highlight. Whether it was sipping tea in the cool morning air or just soaking in the peaceful surroundings, it was the perfect place to unwind. There’s something about being nestled in the woods away from the chaos, that makes you slow down and truly enjoy the moment. The team led by Mr. Ratheesh, was fantastic attentive, warm & always ensuring that everything was just right. They made my partners’ birthday feel extra special, which we truly appreciated. And the food.. Absolutely delicious. Every meal felt carefully prepared and the flavours were spot on, homemade style Dune Barr House isn’t just a stay..it’s an experience. If you’re looking for a place with character, history & exceptional service.. this is it. Can’t wait to return.

Completely enjoyed the hospitality of the staff, especially Manager, Ratheesh, who ensured our every request was taken care of. He also arranged the sightseeing, our return travel etc very cordially. The resort is tucked away in the forest, one is away from the hustle and bustle of an otherwise hectic lifestyle; absolute peace and tranquility all around. No TV, No Wi-Fi, No Internet.... the good ol'days. We ate the meals at proper times, went to bed on time, woke up to the chirping of trees and the rustle of the swaying leaves in the gentle breeze. We really enjoyed being at Dune Barr, and hope to visit again with the larger family. A great restful weekend getaway.

We went for an overnight trip to Matheran and stayed at this property. This is a heritage property with an old world charm. We loved the property and the hosts were also very accommodating and helpful. The kids enjoyed exploring the property and there were enough games to keep them engaged. The food was good...nice and simple. The dining experience was fabulous with candlelight dinner in a room done in French sensibilities. The property is close to the view points and waterfall. This property doesn't have a pool and wifi connectivity is limited. It's a very peaceful and rejuvenating place for people who need a break from the daily hustle bustle. I wish we could have stayed for a longer duration. ❤️

Our stay was blissful relaxation in beautiful surroundings. I travelled there with my Danish friend on the miniature railway. Sat on the exquisite and picturesque verandah with the sites and sounds of nature for company was so special. The staff were extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. We loved the food and anything we asked for was provided with a smile. Our room was very clean, with plenty of space and beautifully furnished, if you like antique style. We will definitely come again and are planning to return with our husbands!

Great place, food and staff, had a great expedience. The place was a unique heritage property. All the things were retained for many years. The service was excellent. The staff were very responsive to any asks. The food was awesome, especially apple pie, Puran poli, egg curry, apart from other things

Dune Barr House is a real gem! Management and staff do their best to let the guest feel like king or queen. All the interior, decoration, etc are exquisite and tasteful. This wonderful place was one of the highlights of my journey through India!

Just back from my short relaxing trip at The Dune Baar Matheran. Amazing and comfy stay at this historic place, secluded in the forest away from the crowd and social media influence. An eco friendly hotel with the tastiest food. The best part about this hotel is the host and his family.....they make u feel at home wth their hospitality. This was my second trip with my daughter's......waiting for many more to come.

I had the most wonderful stay with my family at Dune Barr hotel. The couple who runs it with their adorable son are just fantastic. They made my entire family feel at home and accommodated all of our special needs. They made sure that we were very well fed with the fantastic food. This place is just gorgeous, it hails back from the old British officer days of India and is beautifully set in the forest close to Lake Charlotte and Echo point. It has been restored and kept so beautifully. I loved every morning there.
