Sonesta ES Suites St. Louis Westport

THIS IS NO LONGER A HOTEL! We had a reservation made in January to spend a week here in April. We drove 1300 miles to be with our daughter who was having surgery. When we arrived at the Sonesta ES we were informed that it had been sold and they were no longer a hotel! We had never been informed of this! Nor would any other Sonesta honor our reservation. We were told that "corporate" had come in town and announced this sale. Now we're are scrambling to find another hotel with 2 bedrooms, one for us and one for our daughter who is recovering from surgery. This is corporate neglect of its customers.

Upon arriving at the front desk of this hotel, I was charged over a thousand dollars in advance before I was allowed to check in for my stay, with the balance due on checkout. I also had to sign and initial a document stating that all payments were non-refundable. Red flag number one. The room is badly in need of updating, and as the photos show, it is not thoroughly cleaned. My non-smoking room also featured a pungent smell of old cigarettes crassly fortified with some cheap deodorizer. In fairness, I never mentioned the uncleanliness to the front desk because I've seen worse, and having arrived on a late flight I was desperate for sleep. Also, I'm not going to spend a lot of time in the room on this very busy trip, so I decided to tolerate it. Then comes this morning, 10/20. I'm asleep a little after 9am having worked a very late night, and some lady comes banging on my door demanding payment. I tell her that I already gave my credit card at check-in and anyway the balance is not due until checkout, but she persists that I must appear at the front desk in person by 11am. So around 11, I take my paperwork to the front desk, which clearly shows "next payment due 10/23". They're having none of it, and want to be paid in full for the remainder of my stay immediately, COMPLETELY IGNORING THE AGREEMENT THEY INSISTED THAT I SIGN UPON CHECKIN. Obviously it's not legal to unilaterally change the terms of an agreement after the fact, but they had disabled my key so I couldn't come and go. It so happens that in my case, the only difference these three days makes is a few days of interest charges on my credit card, but what if my circumstances were different? What if I had relied on our agreement and was not going to have the money available until the weekend? No business should be patronized that does not abide by their agreements. In the end I paid the balance today, but I will never stay with these filthy liars again.

Room was clean, stylishly decorated, roomy (kitchen, dining table, sofa, chair, desk). This room was much nicer than standard hotel rooms and was less expensive than others in the area. The bed was comfortable and shower was nice. Grounds are pleasantly landscaped. Good neighborhood (felt safe). Check in was easy, and the clerk was very friendly. Grab and go breakfast (muffin and water). We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in a ** 2bth suite (4 adults, 2 couples) for 3 nights. The room was a bit outdated, but clean. We had to go buy an HDMI cord in order to watch any TV because there are no smart TVs and the cable channels are worthless, so we hooked up a laptop for streaming. The dishes could've been cleaned better but we went and bought a brillo pad to clean the pans ourselves. The area was really quiet and calm. The room worked really well for our purposes of having privacy between each couple but also having a shared space and cost-sharing, and having the ability to buy and cook our own meals to save some money on dining out. The worst parts were: 1) the 4-person dining table. It would have been fine if you could move it away from the wall, but it was screwed to the wall which made whoever had to sit closest to the wall/in the corner really uncomfortable. 2) the couch. It was probably the most uncomfortable couch available, with super thin vinyl cushions. 3) the "breakfast" was just a paper bag filled with a bottle of water, a muffin, and a granola bar. Overall, though, I'd be happy staying there again.

So, I came here last Thursday after moving out of my apartment before surgery on my elbow and checked in. Overall beautiful property just like an apartment. We got the 2 bedroom suite, this is great. Is the furniture a little out dated yes but the beds are extremely comfortable, the shower pressure is out of this world, nice size closet, the front desk people are extremely friendly. Heather is AMAZING! She works with you, we have had to extend our stay three times due to my elbow, she is extremely acomidating. I would give this place 10/10 every time any issues ive had they have been able to fix it. I have a service dog who is so comfortable here as well. We are still here until next Wednesday then we are off to Savannah to our new home.
