Governors' Camp

We are a few weeks back now from visiting Governors and the heart still hurts with wanting to return. Having stayed in many camps across Kenya, SA and Tanzania Governors was still incredibly special. We travelled as a group of 6 with 4 adults and two children and flew in from the equally incredible Loldia House on the Governors plane. This alone is a great experience which only becomes better when you check in to camp. As always the staff play such a massive part in how you feel about a place and a very special mention to Paul, Gladys and Pesi for always looking after us be it at the bar, restaurant or not getting attacked by the cheeky hyenas on the way back to our tents! The kids just loved every second and the way the staff interacted with them being the only kids in camp was amazing and has shaped their views on safari for the rest of their lives. To our guide Kuluo just thank you! If you are lucky enough to get this gentleman as your guide then you are in for a treat! Kind, knowledgeable, humorous, patient, and with a real love of his job - he made our trip even more special and everyone of us was incredibly sad to leave. If you are halfway to booking a safari the chances are you are going to love it anyway but going with the two Governors Camps we were lucky enough to visit will guarantee you something even more special - a trip you will always remember with people you will always want to return to. My husband Adam and I had the most amazing stay at Governors in September 2024. The camp is beautiful, the tents are gorgeous and every single member of staff was so welcoming and kind. Our guide Solomon was truly amazing in every way! He has years of experience and knowledge which made our game drives all the more exciting, but much more than this he has a brilliant nature and we felt as though we were spending time with an old friend. He also picked the perfect spots for us to enjoy our breakfast picnics and our sundowners - breakfast overlooking hippos and elephants and sundowners overlooking lion! Each game drive seemed to be better than the last. In just one game drive we were able to see lions, leopard and cheetah! We were also lucky enough to see a river crossing and a kill. Words cannot express how amazing our experience was, or how thankful we are to Solomon for creating such amazing memories that will last us a lifetime. We are already planning our next trip and really hope we will see Solomon again. We would also like to say thank you to Fred, John and Jackson. We were well looked after with many surprises along the way which we won’t spoil for future guests. We are counting down the days until we can return. 10 plus!!!! We could not have asked for more! Perfect in every way. The food was just fabulous, the guides constantly went above and beyond to make your time so special and the little touches every day were just so special; including the hot water bottles at night and the home made biscuits and hot drinks for your early wake up call. Finally, the Masai dancing was incredible. This was a true 5 star experience where you are transported to a magical place. Every day had wow moments and will give memories that will last forever. It feels an absolute privilege to have stayed here and met every one of the staff team. governor’s camp is what it is because of you all. We sincerely thank you so much. We will be back.

Questa esperienza è stata meravigliosa. Sono appena tornata ma mi sembra di essere ancora lì. Il posto una meraviglia, il silenzio mi ha riempito di emozioni...si sentivano solo gli animali presenti: uccelli, ippopotami, coccodrilli e lo scorrere del fiume Mara. Il campo tendato è stato superlativo, superiore ad un albergo 5 stelle. Le persone simpatiche e disponibili compresi gli ospiti tutti inglesi o australiani ( io unica italiana) mi hanno coccolato. Con il safari sono riuscita a vedere tutti gli animali della savana, merito alle guide molto preparate. ...e poi il giro in mongolfiera che consiglio a tutti almeno una volta nella vita: strepitoso. Che altro dire? Andateci, andate in questo paradiso sulla terra sarete arricchiti anche spiritualmente come lo sono stata io.

Amazing camp with such friendly staff. we saw the wildebeest migration and lots of game. The drives were excellent and the guide was very knowledgeable. The staff just couldnt do enough for us and have to commend Duncan, Kiyoki and the chef ( i forget his name ) We felt that the food options could be expanded ( as you are paying premium price ) and that the communication between the game drivers could be improved (radio communication was not seen ) so that the holiday makers can see all the animals they wanted to see.

We had looked at other camps but decided to stay here and would recommend it.. it’s not luxurious but very comfortable. The tents are spacious and neat. We had ones overlooking the river and the grunts and noises from the hippo did not bother us. Tents get hot in the afternoons, so do ask for a fan. The bathrooms are huge and have hairdryers. We had 3 rooms and out of that, one had good shower pressure , one was ok and the last one was a trickle. The laundry service is good, which is useful as clothes get very dusty. Since they don’t allow plastic bottles, you are given personalised metal bottles to fill drinking water from the safe tap in the tents. All tents have flashlights, umbrellas and insect spray for the rooms The staff is excellent, they take care of everything. We decided to have a picnic, breakfast and lunch. The food and drinks were loaded into our vehicle before we had arrived to start the safari. We are all vegetarians and the chef was very happy to come out and talk to us about our requirements. Some dishes like the vegetable rice, dal, baked potato were excellent but others like the green risotto were ok. One dinner was local vegetarian food and it was delicious , especially the okra. Thank you chef. Our guide Dickson was very knowledgeable and patient. He knew all the good spots for viewing and even managed to show us a river crossing of the wildebeest! They keep raincoats and blankets in the vehicle for your use. We had a great time.
