Fern Resort Mae Hong Son

Net aangekomen, lunch gegeten en massage geboekt. Dit kan al niet meer stuk. Vriendelijk, thuis gevoel, prachtige omgeving en mooie kamers. Het ontbijt is pas morgen uiteraard maar dit kan zeker niet meer mislopen. De mensen zijn hier super!

Hôtel situé assez loin du centre-ville complètement perdu dans la montagne. Le domaine est vaste, il y a énormément de grands arbres. Les bungalows sont disséminés un petit peu partout dans le jardin. Celui-ci n’est pas très bien entretenu malgré que les allées soient balayées tous les jours. Tout le domaine est rustique. Le bungalow 23 est assez spacieux, sombre, le mobilier est rudimentaire tout comme la salle d’eau. Il y a juste le minimum syndical : 2 bouteilles d’eau et une bouilloire 1 sachet de thé, 2 de café soluble sans sucre. Literie raide. Il y a un chien qui aboie lorsqu’il voit quelqu’un. Il n’y a aucun bruit de route mais l’hôtel a organisé un vacarme : il y a 2 minuscules cours d’eau avec des tuyaux en bambou à bascule qui tapent et claquent chacun sur une pierre plate. Le bruit en cascade est insupportable. De retour à l’hôtel en début d'après-midi, nous sommes allés à la piscine. J’ai redéconnecté les tuyaux de bambou pour arrêter les claquements et le vacarme. Il y a des chiens qui se promènent dans le Resort. Ils ne sont pas méchants ni agressifs. Ils ne quémandent pas à manger. Ils ne sont pas très propres, certains sont malades. Ils viennent à votre rencontre, montent sur le transat. Ce n’est pas très agréable…Le soir, en sortant du restaurant, j’ai redéboîté les tubes pour ne pas entendre les claquements la nuit. Le bungalow n’est pas du tout insonorisé. Un gecko s’est invité dans le bungalow. La climatisation est récente mais bruyante. Nous l’avons arrêtée et mis en route le ventilateur (non bruyant). Absence de TV. 2 piscines sur le site dont 1 devant le restaurant et non loin du bungalow. Les transats sont en métal et planches de bois fixes, très inconfortables. 2 Diners pris au restaurant de l'hôtel (il n’y a rien autour de l’hôtel) : la salle est rustique. Nous avons choisi un curry de porc et des légumes de saison sautés aux crevettes et 2 plats locaux le lendemain : très bon et bon marché. Petit déjeuner très classique : pain beurre confiture œuf fruits frais (suffisant). Nous nous sommes installés dehors. Personnel très serviable et souriant.

This was a real find. You must stay here for a couple of days if doing the Mae Hong Son loop, accessible by car or motorbike. It is not far from Mae Hong Son and is absolutely magnificent. Tranquil and with such tropical beauty. The rooms are spacious little huts with a large main area with very comfy bed and a ensuite that is also spacious. We also had a small verandah. There are 2 pools on the property with the infinity style pool offering great sunset views. The gardens are beautiful and abound with butterflies. The resort also has a coffee shop and restaurant for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Our breakfast was included and delicious. Whilst there we also had an amazing and relaxing massage. We only planned to stay one night however this place was so special we added another night!!

Le cadre est époustouflant !!!! Végétation luxuriante. Belle chambre dans petit pavillon en bois. Le domaine est immense et très bien entretenu! Bon accueil. Juste un effort à faire sur le restaurant. Pas de musique. Nous étions 2 tables...un peu triste du coup... Plat de qualité inégale et le petit déjeuner pourrait être plus varié et plus soigné! Mais c'est vite oublié car ce n'est pas l'attrait principal. Massage possible pour 500 bahts. Service de laverie. Lieu incroyable ! On recommande!

After growing up, visiting and living in and around MHS for many years, I finally spent a few nights at the Fern Resort. I’ve always known it was the highest rated accommodation in MHS but I was surprised at how beautiful it was and how extensive the grounds are. It was much larger than I thought with many rooms/cabins and enough space to accommodate them all scattered around rice fields and jungle paths. Each room/suite is similar but the view from the veranda/porch will vary depending on the location. Even if it is at full occupancy, there are quite places to sit and be still throughout the property in addition to the 2-3 coffee shops, dining and other areas. Rooms are well maintained with a few minor maintenance issues (see photos). Staying there in the dry hot season you will quickly realize you are in a literal oasis of green as surrounding hillsides are parched and dry but everything in Fern’s valley is still lush and green. It’s just a lovely place – very relaxing with much to explore - just on the grounds - let alone if you venture off on one of the nature/adventure trails. For the price you cannot go wrong. Staff are friendly and the majority are local hires who live in villages close by. It is 7-8 km outside of Mae Hong Son town so having your own transport definitely will make it easier but they have regular shuttles that can take you back into town. But if you want a few relaxing days surrounded by nature, this is the place to stay. You won’t be roughing it. As far as Thai eco retreats go, you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended.

This is a stunning location on the edge of the National Park. The Shan style cottages were private and spacious but our bed was rather hard and there wasn’t much storage space. The grounds are beautifully maintained and you feel you are living in the forest. The swimming pools were beautifully situated in different parts of the ground. The staff who are mainly from the Karen tribe were charming and helpful. The buffet breakfast was delicious with a large choice and the dinner menu had a good choice of local dishes from the Mae Hong Son region. The drive from Chiang Mai is about 6 hours of fairly tortuous mountain roads but the scenery is magnificent throughout - it’s well worth the effort. We will certainly visit again if we return to Northern Thailand.

A tranquil resort amidst mountains and rice fields, with the sound of a babbling brook where ever you are in the property, time to put those devices away and recharge your mind and spirit.Efficient and friendly staff make your stay a real pleasure!

Curata struttura in mezzo al verde per momenti di pieno relax. Giardini molto curati e graziosi bungalow sparsi nella natura. Buona la colazione e ristorante con buona scelta a prezzi contenuti. Personale sempre disponibile e cordiale. Consigliatissimo per rilassarsi!

Questo resort in mezzo al verde è a pochi chilometri da Mae Hong Son, e ci abbiamo trascorso il pomeriggio visto che la visita in città è stata veloce. Ha due piscine con bar di cui una è affacciata sul punto in cui tramonta il sole. Buono anche il ristorante. Le camere invece essendo costituite da capanne sono piuttosto piccole ma tutto sonmato comode. Colazione inclusa.
