Macedon Ranges Hotel & Spa

Advertised as a hotel, but it turned out to be a motel and a poor one at that. While the view from the room was nice, that was the only good thing about this place. Upon entering the room, we noticed a laminated card that said “our water is being tested please drink these complimentary bottles” next to two measly 600ml bottles of water. This is completely unacceptable for a hotel or motel to not have clean drinking water readily available in the room. Reading other reviews, I found out that this has been an ongoing issue for at least three months, which is appalling. To make matters worse, we were excited to try out the spa bath, only to find out that the water was barely lukewarm. We spent 10 minutes trying to fill the bath, but the water was coming out of the faucet stone cold. This completely ruined the whole reason we booked here in the first place. It seems like the hot water system can't keep up with the occupancy or just doesn't work at all. To add insult to injury, we couldn't even take a shower because of the lack of hot water for the remainder of the night. The grounds were in disrepair and looked shabby, which was a big letdown. The bed was uncomfortable, and the TV was better suited to a caravan than a ‘hotel’. If you need any help from reception, forget about it. They only operate strict hours and then leave you stranded. This is not what I expect from a hotel. Overall, I would never stay here again. The lack of clean drinking water, hot water, and basic amenities make this place a complete disappointment. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

We stayed at the Macedon Hotel and Spa for 2 nights. Excellent rooms - spacious, spotlessly clean - with spa looking out to the bush setting Well located to nearby Woodend and Macedon. There is also a fabulous restaurant on site - The Wine Collective - excellent food and service in a lovely setting. Recommended

Booked based on pictures and facilities advertised but definitely wish I had read the reviews here first because we paid $450 and had no facilities beyond the room itself. Positives- room was as pictured, large, spa was nice, was pleasant looking at the tree tops from the spa, gas fire was great, bath robes very nice and soft, lady at reception helpful and informed us straight away about day spa being closed (which I knew from website) and restaurant not open (which I could not ascertain from website). Negatives- overpriced, couldn't see 'the mountain view' because the trees have grown up (to cover the Calder Highway I assume) but also now block what would be a great view of the mountain, room was NOT meticulously clean, TV kept getting interference (from planes?) and difficult to watch, not a Smart TV either so couldn't connect up my own Netflix or anything to provide viewing beyond free to air TV, the pool only open 9-5 (outside our time at the motel), the restaurant only open Wed- Sat (not when we stayed) and the general feel of the properry is 'uncared' for as far as maintenance goes, EG cracked tiles, broken mantelpiece, outside needing a good powerwash.

This Hotel advertises free wifi however once checked in and logged onto the wifi it advises you that there is only 1GB provided. I listen to the radio and there wasn't even a clock radio in the room so to stream from the wifi it gave me just over an hour once i had done my emails as well. There is no mention of the restricted wifi on the website, in the confirmation email or at check in. There was a note in the room that the water was currently being tested so please use the bottled water provided. 2 x 600ml bottles for 2 days! The carpet was stained, the exhaust fan in the bathroom was filthy and the floor to ceiling windows overlooking Mt Macedon had dust and cobwebs on them. There is no one on site at this Hotel from 5pm in the evening until 9 am the following morning which is also concerning. Give this one a miss!

We had a lovely stay here on a hot summer Saturday night. The room was spacious and really quiet even though the hotel was fully booked that night. The bed was big and comfortable. We had cozy seats by the window where we sat at the sunset. I would especially like to thank the friendly person at the front desk who helped us with our special requests.

Check-on, having noted online we could secure with a credit card and pay cash on arrival, arrived and they had processed our card, wouldn’t refund. Room had a lovely view but very basic. As the night went on the drains started to smell, even the tap water smelt disgusting. Kept us awake. Couldn’t wait to get out. No one available at checkout 0900? Pillows hard, shower filthy and outdoor corridors dirty. Would not be returning.

Our upstairs corner spa suite came complete with a large corner spa with a view of the forest and Mount Macedon. Lovely gas fire in the room kept the room nice and cosy. King size bed with a spare blanket if it was cool (it was!). Lovely fluffy bathrobes, lots of toiletries and usual equipment (iron, hairdryer, kettle, toaster) provided. We bought the breakfast baskets and it included muesli, yoghurt, bread, jam, juice $20 per day). Recommend taking your own pillow but all linen and the room were fresh and clean and very pleasant. A variety of snacks in the mini bar a bit pricey but an option if you get the munchies as its a little drive to the nearest shop.

We had a memorable stay at Macedon Ranges Hotel and Spa. Our room, the Deluxe Corner Room, had a good amount of space for a family of three plus a beautiful view. And while we were unable to book a spa during our stay, we were still able to enjoy the in-room jacuzzi. In addition, the service we experienced from the hotel staff was great, especially Haries who went above and beyond to assist us.

Was given a nights accommodation as a gift and had to cancel due to covid lockdowns. Finally we got a night away over the easter break. When booking i was told it was a minimum of two night so we had to purchase another night accommodation at $ 260 so in total $520. When booking i asked about the restaurant and the spa and was told it was all open over easter. On arrival i asked again about the restaurant and spa as we wanted to make the most of the accommodation only to be told it was closed, i asked about the spa that was fully booked and was very disappointed. We went into Macedon there was an easter festival and all the cafes were fully booked with Asian tour busses pre booking everything Great start to our weekend away. Headed back to the Hotel to check in, our room was a beautiful corner suite but very dirty and dated. We thought we would shower and head 20 minutes away into town to eat. I took one look at the shower floor which was dirty with mould and a grub to my disgust. the roof was full of cob webs and skirting boards filthy the outside of the rooms full of cobwebs, dirty windows the garden so unkept in the whole hotel. we spent the next two days in the surrounding towns as there was nothing at the hotel. We did manage to ring the Restaurant which was reopened on Saturday night and managed to get a booking for 6pm. My husband walked down to the Wine collective the restaurant at about 3pm to see were the restaurant was and on arrival was greeted with a rude were not opened and were fully booked! He asked were he could have a drink and explained we had a dinner booking but was told he could not have a drink. So he headed back to the room to fill in a three hour wait. We got dressed for dinner and headed down to dinner at 5.45 and were greeted by the same horrible old woman who yelled out were booked out. I explained we had a booking and was told come back at 6 she escorted me to the door and locked it behind me I told her how disappointed i was as the place was not as advertised as it had been closed the whole hotel was a disappointment i was told go back to your room and come back at 6pm, it was 5.50 by this stage. We did go back to the restaurant when she left and was so glad she didnt come back. The staff were so apologetic for her behaviour. Our meal was beautiful the service was great beautiful views of the area such a shame we weren't able to sit and have a few drinks in the afternoon and utilise the hotels amenities. Oh well we wont be back and it look like by the reviews no one else will be either
