Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Lumberton, NC

My family and I have stayed here every single time we travel to Lumberton. We always receive nothing but excellence from all the staff and management staff (April). Very courteous, compassion, and work as a team together. I can personally say that my family and I haven’t had a bad stay since we’ve been staying here. The Good: Room size: Very spacious, plenty of room for 2 people to spread out comfortably. WiFi: Reliable and consistent—worked well for remote work over three days. Lighting: Super bright, which helped for working and reading. TV: Functions great, supports Xbox and additional apps with no issues. Charging ports: Lots of convenient outlets throughout the room. Parking: Close, easy, and free—definitely one of the hotel’s stronger points. The Bad: Housekeeping: Sign said they clean every 3rd night, but it’s been over a week and no one has come. Trash is piling up, and we haven’t received fresh towels or had the bed made once. Bed/Pillows: The pillows are oddly shaped (square) and uncomfortable. The bed itself has never been changed or cleaned during our stay. Shower: Water gets nice and hot, but the pipes squeak loudly when the temperature goes up. Curtains: Don’t close all the way, so the sunlight wakes you up early. Also, being on the 2nd floor, I can hear every loud conversation from people outside day and night. Mini kitchen: Only includes a mini fridge and microwave—no stove, oven, or freezer. Not really a full kitchenette if you’re planning to cook. The Worst: Room air: The room smells musty, and the air quality is poor—I’ve been coughing since I arrived. Water: Tastes murky and actually made my stomach hurt. Definitely avoid drinking it. Breakfast: While technically available, the food and drinks taste off. I wouldn’t recommend eating any of it. Pool: It was advertised as open (it’s July), but when we arrived, the pool was completely empty and marked “closed for the season.” Location: Right off the highway and surrounded by other sketchy hotels. Not a great feeling pulling in, especially at night. Final Thoughts: If you just need a place to sleep for a couple of nights and don’t care about cleanliness, food, or amenities, this place will get the job done. But I’d suggest bringing your own towels, bedding, and food. For longer stays or if comfort matters to you, I’d look elsewhere.

We just needed a room for the night, mainly just shower and sleep. So we thought 3.5 and #9 of 26 would be OK. We should have chosen something else. Looks OK outside, but it is your typical old, worn out, concrete-wall-in-the-room hotel. Lots of bandaids to help the look, but not enough. The lobby and breakfast area were fine. But my first indication of trouble was old, really stained floor tiles in the elevator. Halls had new looking carpeting, so I was still hoping for OK. Opened the room door and the carpet in the room was very worn and badly stained. It has a tub, not a step in shower. It is pet friendly, they say only for some rooms. A pro if you need pet friendly, a con if not. Pros include plenty of well lit parking, mattress slept fine and hot water in the shower. But the shower did not drain well. The toilet is one of those very short ones. Great for small kids. Not for me. The final nail in the coffin, which really was ridiculous, was the drink machine. Our floor didn't have the two drinks we wanted, so I had to go downstairs to that machine. First, it didn't take credit cards. So back up to the room to get cash. Then I got back and the machine only took $1 bills, not $5 bills. I had a few ones, so tried those. It took the first two ones, but wouldn't take the third one dollar. Then it only gave me one of the two dollar bills back that I had put in. I tried three times, but nope. I went to the front desk and asked for my one dollar back the machine had kept, and asked for help getting a drink out. The desk clerk said she knew the drink machines caused lots of problems, but that she had no control of them. Sorry. Shouldn't you have control of machines in your hotel?? Not happy. I went back to the machine and after multiple tries, I finally got one drink out. I went back to the front desk to ask for five ones for a $5 bill (to get the drink for my wife), as I only had a five and two ones left. The clerk said they don't do change. So they have a drink machine that #1) doesn't work well at all and #2) only takes $1 bills, no credit cards or $5 bills, and #3)they don't have $1 bills for change. Good luck getting a drink at this hotel. The breakfast was VERY basic. I added a picture of the chair at the desk in the room. Looks like they got it out of a junk yard. Oh, and that pretty picture of a pool there... it was completely drained and empty. I had intended to rate this hotel a 2, because of it's condition. But this drink machine fiasco pushed it to a 1 rating. I'd suggest looking at one of the #3-6 rated hotels in Lumberton area. NOT this one.

The hotel itself left a lot to be desired. The outside looked decent, the lobby was updated but the rooms and hall smelled of smoke. The carpet was dirty and the tub did not drain very quickly. The one highlight of our visit was Michelle at the front desk when we arrived. We didn't have a reservation due to another hotel overbooking and cancelling our reservation so we were stressed. Michelle was an absolute delight, she was friendly, accommodating and even let us check out the room she was going to put us in. She has an incredible bubbly personality and was a breath of fresh air to interact with under our circumstances. She even made my husband a fresh pot of coffee at about 7pmish on Sat. night when we were checked in. She loves people and goes above and beyond her job. She really made our evening memorable.

Okay for a late night stop on the road, other than that I’d pass.

This motel is convenient for a night’s stay when traveling on route 95.
