I would absolutely never recommend the Aqua View to anyone, and these past 5 star reviews in no way reflect our experience. As our 7 year old put it, “who would want to stay there?” We called the hotel this morning to ask about early check in, and the woman told us that the owner had switched us to an upstairs room when we had purposely booked a downstairs room due to my 80 year old mother not being able to do more than a few stairs at a time (there’s no elevator). We told her that that wasn’t a possibility and why, and she said she’d call the owner and let us know if she was able to fix it. We felt that making a change like that warranted a phone call beforehand, but we didn’t receive one. The woman was able to change it back, but when we pulled up, the hotel was NOT what the website represented it to be at all. We knew it was an older hotel and I feel like we had reasonable expectations based on that (clean and not a hazard). There were multiple people outside smoking, and cigarette butts everywhere. The pool did look okay, but it wasn’t as big as it seemed from the pictures. From the pictures on their website, we thought this was beach front, but it was not. I would guess it’s about a football field to the public beach entrance. The floor in our room hadn’t been throughly swept (even a quick run with a Swiffer would‘ve been a huge improvement), there was a large amount of sand and dust anywhere that wasn’t a high traffic area, the security chain was missing on the door, the top of the coffee pot was broken off, the base of the toilet needed a good scrub, and there were smears on the wall. The biggest problem though was the floor boards were deeply cracked to the point that we just kept our shoes on because as soon as my mom took her shoes off, she had a massive splinter break off in her foot. The cracks were also full of sand… some sand is understandable, because we’re at the beach, but whoever cleaned the room didn’t even try to get the sand out of the cracks. We were in the room less than 30 minutes before we booked another hotel room and went to the office to check out. My husband asked the man behind the desk if we’d still be charged since we were checking out due to the room being unacceptable and the man laughed at him and sarcastically said “Of course!” My husband asked to get a receipt and while the man was printing it, I pointed out the splintering floorboards and how the room needed a deep cleaning badly, and the man said the rooms are cleaned daily. When my husband said they sure don’t appear that way, the man behind the counter said “Well, satisfaction is NOT guaranteed.” Our jaws dropped. My husband said he’d be calling his credit card company to dispute the charge, because of the safety issue with the floor and our 7 year old being with us, and the man said, “Maybe I’ll hold your deposit a few extra days then.” (They’re not good about communicating about the deposit either, because we didn’t realize we’d paid one until then.
