We've stayed at the Housel Bay many times, and always leave feeling relaxed and rested. The location is prefect (nonwithstanding the proximity to the lighthouse!). The hotel itself is quiet and calm; the decor understated with pale greys and natural materials. The food has got better and better over the years. The Terrace menu, is certainly not the usual pub/bar food. This time the menu was quite short, particularly for vegetarians, but that isn't a problem for a short stay, and we appreciate the effort made to offer come creative and delicious dishes to non meat-eaters. Fallowfields, as ever, was quite special. The dishes were imaginative, without being too extreme ( the kelp tea was a revelation!). The staff always friendly and helpful, particularly the longstanding members of the team ( it was lovely to be greeted like old friend by Alex!). In trying to put my finger on what makes the hotel so peaceful, it occurred to us that the lack of dogs does make a difference. I believe the hotel does allow dogs in some of the bedrooms now, and they are pemitted in the Terrace Restaurant, but on this occasion there were none, which was very pleasant.
