Being an older couple, we were a bit sceptical of staying in a "youth hostel", but it was the only place we could find for an overnight stay after a concert. It was also a Friday night, and Grand national weekend, so we were fortunate to get somewhere. It was more expensive that we wanted to pay, (but considerably less than most hotels in the area for that weekend). Normally if it had not been Grand National weekend and a Friday, the prices are really reasonable for a short stay to explore the area. We need not have worried, booking in was really easy, the staff were really helpful, polite and friendly, and we felt safe and secure in our room and in the hostel, even though the noise outside was really loud. That said, they have triple glazing on the windows, and the "noise" wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, more of a constant "beat" outside. Managed to sleep fine, we were on the top floor. You don't get a key or card, it's a PIN code on the door handle, everyone has their own unique number - and yes - they write it down for you so you don't forget! The room was clean and basic, no TV, but we didn't expect any as there are TV's downstairs in the bar area. Beds comfy, separate ensuite shower and toilet, body wash and hand wash all provided, and two large towels. Would have liked a hand towel for the bathroom, but probably would have got one had I asked. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. There are also two lifts. The cafe area looked good, though we didn't use it, had breakfast the next day, which was sufficient, £15.90 for2 buffet breakfasts, which was toast, cereal yoghurt, then a cooked breakfast, no fried eggs only scrambled, but it was ok. I think you can buy the continental breakfast on it's own, or the cooked on it's own too if you like. They sent us an email with "enhance your stay" and then you could click on the link and order different extras - breakfast, early check in, late check out, or order some Pizzas. The check in is normally 4.00pm, and we booked an early one, (1.00pm), which we were glad of, as had more time then to get ready and go out for an early meal before the concert. Early check in is £3.00 per person. There is also a microwave downstairs, so you could do yourself a ready meal for dinner if you wanted to save a bit of money, and M&S is just short walk away to buy one. Also free teas and coffees (downstairs not in the rooms), as well as being able to buy them in the cafe. It's a nice clean, friendly, safe place to stay, right in the heart of Liverpool, so close to everything, would recommend and definitely book again, as the pricing is very reasonable. Would stay midweek next time, when the City centre isn't as manic! It's within easy reach of train station, buses and about 15 mins to M&S Bank Arena. They are also really responsive to messages, and always get back to you within a couple of hours, and will answer any query you have. Nothing not to like really - a great little place in the
