We had a wonderful stay in Lijiang and this was in no small part due to this hotel. Firstly, the location. It is one of the first hotels if you enter the the old town from the "main street". In fact, it is right beside the public car park in the old town. As such, it is possible for the DiDi to drop you at the doorstep which is not possible for other hotels cos the car park is the furthest cars are allowed to go in the old town. And even if some drivers refuse to go into the Old Town, it is only a short walk from the main street. And if you have heavy luggage, pulling or carrying them up & down the cobblestone streets is no joke. (If you stay 2 nights or more, you get free drop off which the hotel only uses drivers who will drop you off at the doorstep)
Next, the hotel is new, so everything is nice, clean & modern. Granted, if you're looking for the traditional style architecture in your hotel, this is not it. But for us, it works cos we've stayed in traditional MinSu in other parts of China so a modern one is a change. One major plus for us is, if you like firmer beds & pillows like we do, this was one of the most comfortable bed & pillow combo we've ever slept in anywhere, not just China. They were latex & were so comfortable.
Our rate came with breakfast & it was decent. Don't expect international chain 5 star variety but it was also not bad. Some Chinese food & some Western food like eggs, bacon or ham. And they have the hot station which served the local specialty of Rice noodles soup which was good for the chillier mornings. They serve free afternoon tea or coffee everyday. Great coffee along with fruits & freshly made waffles while we were there (I miss the coconut latte)
And finally, and perhaps most importantly, the service & staff. They were superb. They gave unbiased advice for trip planning & were helpful in any way possible. We asked for suggestions for sights, food & even shopping & their suggestions were all on point for us. And if you speak mandarin (which unfortunately might be the only negative as the staff are not too conversant in English), you can join 3 guys (Ah Hua, Ah Liu, Da Fei) at night for tea, herbal wine & great conversation where you can hear interesting stories from them & about them.
All in all, this property enhanced our trip in Lijiang rather than just being a place for us to come back at night to sleep. And if we ever go back to the Old Town again, we already know where we'll be staying.
