Lovely hotel in great location. Over expensive, and the welcome we received from the receptionist was far from friendly. On the plus side the breakfast was excellent, with friendly waiting staff.

We stayed here overnight and the greeting and information at reception were excellent. Breakfast was really nice with lots of choice. Our room itself was a good room with a walk in shower. I am awaiting 2 new hip replacements and when they showed my wife where the room was, at the top and at the back, she explained my problems with stairs etc, they said they would try and change it but there was a wedding taking place and all rooms had been taken. This made life extremely difficult and when we went to the large bar area, every seat was taken, we were just about to leave the bar area when a kind family stood up and gave us their seats.

Our one night stay was amazing. The staff couldn’t have done more for us and nothing was ever a problem. They were welcoming of our dogs and in fact, our little one, who is usually very shy, developed a crush on Dave, our waiter for dinner. Dave and then the waiting staff at breakfast were outstanding. The meal at dinner was fabulous but the breakfast was exceptional-the best we’ve ever had. Spa facilities were of a high standard. The room was comfortable although we were unable to control the heating and we got very warm during the night and the temperature in the shower wasn’t hot enough. Overall we had a relaxing and restful stay in an incredible place. Lavenham is really a place to wander and wonder at the incredible architecture.

A delightful historic building oozing with history, character and charm. Visit for a coffee or a drink, but should you stay or dine here? Read on. Accommodation Stayed in a recently refurbished premium room that was spacious and looked like the photos on the web site. Pity the sofa didn't face the TV, the safe and extractor in the bathroom didn't work and it was cold. The safe issue was put right and we did have a convector heater for heating which saved the day. Issues like that do raise questions for housekeeping and their checking processes and procedures. A bit like the dead pigeon on the roof, visible to all if you pulled the net curtain back. Spa This facility is pleasant and added to our stay. Dining I could just leave one word review - disaster. We dined in the Gallery Restaurant. The food was over priced and tasteless with limited choice for vegetarians. Several items were also sold out. We ate at 6.45pm. To sell out so early seemed unusual. The Watercress Veloute was rustic. More like a puree; my guess was that it was bulked out with potato. The Tomato Salad was a disgrace at £12. Could it get worse? Yes it could. The £20 Risotto was more like soupy rice. Flavorless with a token sprinkle of vegan cheese. Due to an allergy meaning no grapefruit, the citrus veg was omitted from the £27 Stone Bass and served with 4 potatoes. No offer of an alternative vegetable. The £11 Pineapple Millie Feuille which presented like no other I had ever seen came with the wrong ice cream, and the 7cm dish of trifle at £10 was vile. Breakfast thankfully was better. Would I stay here again - Maybe. Would I dine here again - definitely not, unless I hear the Kitchen Brigade has changed.

A business trip and this hotel is quite the find. The room was very comfortable and the reception team very friendly. The let down is the dining experience. The food is reasonable if over priced and under seasoned but the service lacks passion and interaction. The staff can be pleasant enough but avoid interacting with customers or communicating with them.

We left The Swan feeling we'd had a wonderful 3 night break. The room was very comfortable, clean and welcoming. The food in the restaurant was fantastic and imaginative with plenty of choice and beautifully presented and cooked. The staff were all delightful, friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is a really interesting old building with quirky corners and winding passageways. All good!

We stayed here for two nights for my wife’s birthday. We have been here several times before but the last time many years ago. Room was lovely. A heritage room in the wool Hall end of the hotel. Lovely size. Fully equipped with tea and coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. TV and desk. En-suite bathroom and shower and a built in wardrobe. Huge bed and a sofa and chair along with a coffee table. If you do stay here you are entitled to two hours a day free in the spa. If that’s your thing. We sat in the airman’s bar at lunch time on the first day. We hadn’t eaten so we had sandwiches as a light lunch. My wife had salmon with whipped cream cheese and I had a Ruben, both served with crisps and a side salad. All very nice. The barman Dave is a real find. Very good at his job and very knowledgeable. An excellent asset to the hotel. A real treat for us was honey roast chilli nuts on the bar. We ate far too many but they are very moreish. The only let down was the Gallery restaurant menu. Not a great selection of food. My wife didnt really fancy any of it and I wasn’t bowled over with enthusiasm so unfortunately we didn’t eat in there which was disappointing as we were looking forward to it. We had breakfast served in our room in the morning. There is an extra charge for this so be aware. Breakfast was wonderful. Fill in the menu at night, it’s picked up by the night shift and delivered at your chosen time. Food was really good. Full cooked English breakfast, cereals and juices. Tea and coffee, toast and preserves. All hot food was hot and all very fresh. Our stay was very relaxing and we really enjoyed the experience. The only down side was the restaurant menu. Sadly not our taste at all and we do eat out a lot so maybe a wider selection needed.

We called in for coffee in the Morning, as we usually do at other POB Hotels. Firstly the tables were dirty with crockery from previous customers. We asked for it to be cleaned she removed the cups etc but left the table dirty with crumbs, sugar, spilt drink etc. My wife went to the bar to order the coffees and waited ages as the barman tried to pour out a pint of beer without a head!! he must have taken at least 5 mins trying to top it up with a decent head. He then served me, & said he would bring the coffees into the lounge. This must have taken about 15 minutes. When it arrived it had no biscuits so we asked another member of staff who then wanted us to go to the till to pay for them so we left it as one the small cup of coffee would be cold and usually biscuits are complimentary in POB Hotels. The coffee itself was ok, but we had to keep asking for things which becomes embarrassing. One other guest cancelled his coffee as he had waited over 25 minutes! Needless to say we wont be visiting again.
