The Majlis Resort

1. Booking- We booked through the hotel and the process was seamless. Answered all the questions and reply time was very fast. We also had to reschedule our dates and they were kind enough to allow this. 2. Arrival- we were greeted on time when we landed at Lamu. Taken to the hotel via boat. Loved the experience. No jetty on arrival and this made it even more special, we got to have our feet in water and very clean sand immediately 3. Our stay- The staff are all gems. They were so kind, so helpful. I genuinely felt at home. I cant complement them enough. Best service ever. 4. Package- We had the honeymoon package and boy did they deliver. Everything on the package was perfect. It was such a great great deal. They went above and beyond. The deal was too good. Others: Food was really good, (a la carte during our stay but still part of the package) the portions were massive, they have 3 restraunts you can choose from. The views were gorgeous. And they have set up relaxing seats along the coast line. They have an activity bar where you can choose a variety of things to do. The gentleman there was very kind and curated the best activities for us. I would 100% recommend Majlis.

An excellent two day stopover to visit Lamu and relax. The staff were extremely helpful in arranging or organising aspects of our stay. The only issue is the time taken to get there by boat if the conditions in the channel are rough. The hotel boat requires suitable covering for passengers and luggage in transit to and from the hotel.

The architecture is beautiful, they have multiple rest areas with amazing views! Loved their sports center, with variety of activities to choose from . The service is top notch and the manager Mr Josiah Nyakundi made it extra special for my daughter’s birthday.

Stayed for 6 days with my wife and we really enjoyed our stay. Just from our arrival the staff were so kind and friendly. The ladies are the reception were also nice especially the main one (can’t remember her name but she’s dark)… she really paid attention to any complain made and ensured everything was dealt with accordingly enabling us to have a splendid stay. The rooms are 100/10 in terms of space, ambience and cleanliness… also loved how they maintained the ancient culture on their property felt like one existed back in time of the Arabs Food…they have 3 restaurants with spectacular food besides one called BREEZE… it is the main one… the food there is PATHETIC!!!!… don’t bother having your meals there… but the other 2 had the best meals that’s where we ate at for the rest of our stay. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay plus the activities… especially the sunset Dow and tubing… my wife and I had the best time… Thank You Majlis… we shall surely return 😊

The place is amazing. Staff very good. Food was good as well. It is worth it to go. I was there for our honeymoon the treatment we received was so so good by the staff members. Here is the reason why I gave it 1 star review. The owners are some of the rudest people I’ve met. They’re Italians and would speak to each other in Italian, unaware that I’m also a native speaker. The nasty things he was saying about his staff was unbelievable. I had to be calmed down by my wife otherwise I would have told them off. One of the owners was keep threatening to get all his staff members fired. The reason because the pizza was not meeting his standards, and nothing was ready at the owner’s pleasure. I felt so so bad for the staff, that it kind of made our honeymoon a bit awkward too. A tip for the owners it is Kenya, no one is coming here expecting Italian grade pizza!You have a great staff you need to treat them with respect!

I attended a 50th birthday celebration and must say the team was more than prepared. Rooms were spacious with extremely comfortable beds. The food was out of this world!!! The boat ride from the pier to the resort blew me away. This is definitely a must do.

We were there for what appears to have been a hot spell even for the locals. So we were glad to have stayed at the Maglis, where the large rooms are air conditioned (which was needed). It was certainly a different world from the safari experiences we had earlier in our trip, a resort hotel on the coast rather than an all inclusive safari lodges. We enjoyed the post safari R&R, the snorkeling trip and the guided tour of Lamu. Food was OK, staff was pleasant and helpful, and it was great to be on the Indian Ocean, and see a different part of Kenyan history, culture and geography. The hotel was beautiful, unusual in design and well run with very comfortable rooms. The pools and poolside umbrellas/cabanas allowed for respite from even midday heat.

I would rate it 10 but after witnessing an horrible incident i give it 1. I saw the manager pour a whole bucket of water that nearly landed on one of the cleaners. When i approached him he said they are misuing water and his words were this is the only way they understand. There a couple who were near him who said he was very rude with the way he spoke to the workers. This manager was so proud telling me that he has been a manager for 30 years. This man doesnt deserve to be a manager in any hospitality and he needs to go back to training. His arrogancy and rudeness and inhuman is on another level. Most staffs came to me to tell me thank you because he mistreats them and he has no regards for them. One of the receptionist that i approached to ask the boss of this manager to see me never until today when am checking out brought anyone. I called the head office and reported what i had witnessed to the reservation manager who made me feel heard and she impressed me that she is customer service orientated and cares about their stay at majlis. This manager dressing is lacking. His staff dress properly. One is shocked to learn that he is a manger of such a hotel of its calibre. One might have beautiful buildings but most people go back to the same places because of how they were treated. Watching this horrible thing left a sour taste in my mouth and wondered how these amazing staffs go through in the hands of this bad manager. The couple that witnessed also asked me that they were surprised yesterday to see this manager still around after exhibiting such behaviour. I told them i reported the incident to head office and hope that something is done like training this person. The reception team doesnt go around checking on their guests unlike others hotels. They are friendly but need mingle out of the office with their guests and find out how their stay is going. I observed only the rest of the staffs would check on the guests and ask how they are doing. Besides all this the hotel is beautiful and the location is perfect.

We travelled for the weekend, this is our 4th stay here but will be our last! You’re much better off staying at Peponi! Positives 1. Hotel - The hotel is quite picturesque Negatives 1. Service - The hotel could not locate our booking for an hour despite having paid 50% of the room fee and were extremely unapologetic 2. Food - is inedible! Most of Majlis guests end up at Peponi for all meals! 3. View - The hotel is set quite far from the beach 4. Atmosphere - the hotel is generally dead, with nothing else in Manda. Doesn’t feel like Lamu. 5. Pool bar - Barely any ventilation, no fans and no vibe 6. Staff - some staff are quite rude, we had a terrible experience with Florence from reception:
