The guesthouse is about a 16-minute walk from the jetty, which is manageable but worth noting if you're arriving with luggage. Unfortunately, our stay here was disappointing for several reasons. There is loud construction (sawing, hammering, etc.) going on right next door, starting around 7:00 AM — not exactly ideal for a relaxing island getaway. Upon arrival, the owner rushed through our welcome, saying he had to "catch a boat," though he still made time to collect the cash payment for our stay. Strangely, despite needing to catch a boat (which, on La Digue, usually means a considerable trip), he was back within two hours. Even though he knew exactly when we were arriving, the A/C in our room was off, leaving it uncomfortably hot. The minifridge wasn’t working either — he claimed the previous guest must have turned it off — but offered that we could use the shared kitchen and keep our food in the communal fridge. Unfortunately, this led to an even worse experience. While cooking dinner on our first night (which is often necessary on La Digue, especially on a Monday when many restaurants are closed), the gas ran out mid-meal. I texted him to let him know, expecting some help. Instead, he told me to just put my half-cooked food in the fridge. When I explained I was actively cooking and asked if he could do anything, he disappeared for about 30 minutes. I assumed he was trying to fix the issue, but when he returned, he told me he'd contacted my booking company and was informed that kitchen access wasn’t technically included in my reservation — completely ignoring the immediate problem and showing zero empathy for our situation. There was no apology, no effort to help, and certainly no sense of hospitality. His response was indifferent and dismissive, which felt particularly harsh given the challenges of finding food options on the island at that hour. Ultimately, I canceled our second night. Between the construction noise, poor hospitality, and lack of basic care for guests, I wouldn’t stay here again.
