We stayed at Backwater Ripples for four nights and left wishing we had booked more. The room was spacious with a separate living area, bedroom and a changing room(?). The Bathroom was a highlight :) yes, it was clean and all that, but the outdoor shower with so many plant made us want to come home and create at least the plants in our bathroom. The view of the sky and the sounds of the birds was memorable Most mornings we joined Deepa for yoga on the lawn. Her voice was calm and soothing, and let silence do the rest. A couple of we did yoga near the pool that lines up with the lake. With palms overhead and fishing boats crossing we n the distance, set the tone for the day. Evenings felt unforced. The bar ran a happy hour which we tried to be religious about. Evenings, there was typically a music performance that set a soft mood. I did one spa visit for a massage; my wife went for multiple facials with herbal oils. Dinners showed the kitchen knows its craft. I grew up in Kerala and the food was very solid and did not disappoint. When we reached our next stop in Munnar, both of us said we missed that food. The people here make the place. Our requests were met a quick reply, did not feel like scripted lines. Driver Tony took us we into Kottayam and later up toward Munnar. He knew back roads, and accomodating. Backwater Ripples doesn’t flash luxury logos, yet everything works and the staff seemed proud and happy to work there. It became a quiet high point of our trip. We would look forward to returning on our next trip.
