Old Town Apartment

If you are in Krakow and want to try traditional Polish food then head into the old town and try Pod Antonomi. The food was sublime my partner had the bigos stew and I had nobleman's pork shishlack. The meat was delicious and tender and the service was fantastic.

Lovely buildings. Was initially puzzled by Xmas trees/ lights still being up (24th jan) but was told this is traditional & they stay up until 2nd feb ( day of Christ's presentation at the temple). Some cobbled roads. Just lovely to see. Lots of restaurants, bars , variety of shops ( a lot don't open until 10/11 am but are open later. Horse & carriage rides available round square at night but we didn't do this.

At any time of day there is a very vibrant atmosphere. St Mary's basilica is impressive outside and very elaborately decorated inside. Worth a look. The Cloth hall is interesting although the covered market inside is mostly cheap souvenir trinket stalls - with some exceptions. There is a weird and rather eerie Eros (head bound) sculpture in the corner next to the town hall tower - you can climb this for views. The architecture is aesthetically pleasing. Bars, restaurants, cafes (most with an outdoor terrace and umbrellas) and exchange Kantor outlets surround the square. These are all more expensive than other parts of the Old City. There is a number of smaller stalls selling street food - mostly Polish cuisine but you can also buy burgers and barbecued food or snacks like pretzels or ice cream etc. You can hire a horse and carriage - there was around 10 or more available when I visited. I went back twice, it's very pleasant just to stroll round the square and soak up the atmosphere. But watch out for flying pigeons.
