Asama Bungalow

Stayed here with 2 friends and had a fantastic authentic experience. It is what it is shown as, a hut. However, if you are into camping and outdoor experiences, I highly recommend this accommodation. There are a lot of creepy crawlies, that try to come in. There is a bug net. The only negative is that the Wi-Fi is very poor; it is enough to browse social media but not watching videos or making calls. It is in a great location and the facilities are really good. It is very peaceful. The laundry service is quick and cheap. The staff are lovely.

We previously stayed here in 2019 and paid about $11 per night. Revisiting Ko Lanta we saw the price hadn’t changed so booked another 3 nights. Last time we were in one of the huts close to the road which are larger but get some road noise. This time we were at the back- smaller huts but quieter- you’re woken by the sound of birdsong in the morning and seeds from trees bouncing off the tin roof. The rear huts are tiny and whereas the ones near the road are constructed from raffia, these are chipboard. Consequently they look very cheap, maybe like they were constructed in a single day as a team building exercise by office workers. The entire space is taken by the bed, so two people can’t move around together in the room. There’s a small space near the bathroom to store bags and the most important points are there’s a good fan and a mosquito net which was a bit small but worked ok when fastened with safety pins. We actually slept well- if anything it was quite cool in the night. The room was clean enough though we had no cleaning or towel change in the 3 days we stayed. Shower was good pressure, cool and refreshing. The owners don’t speak much English and weren’t overly friendly. Location wise it’s less than 5 mins to the 711 and bars and restaurants are on the doorstep. It’s 5 minutes to Long Beach which I found a bit underwhelming- the sea wasn’t clear and there were a few concealed rocks beneath the surface. There are nicer beaches 5 mins North on a scooter. This is a budget accommodation, no frills, for a cheap price. It’s rough and ready but clean enough. Another good point is that it’s virtually impossible to have a smaller room so wherever you go next will seem big in comparison!
