Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Our experience at Sukau Rainforest Lodge was nothing short of amazing. The lodge is beautiful, surrounded by nature, and designed to offer comfort while staying true to its rainforest setting. The staff were super friendly and made us feel at home from the start. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, turning every river cruise and jungle walk into a fascinating experience. A special mention goes to Borneo Eco Tours, who organized everything flawlessly—from transfers to activities—making the whole trip smooth and stress-free. This is more than just a stay—it’s a truly immersive and inspiring nature experience. Highly recommended!

The entire 3 day / 2 night trip put together by Borneo Eco Tours was one of the highlights of our trip. Our tour guide was very informative and funny. The visit to Sepilok and daily river cruises were amazing and we spotted so much wildlife. And lastly, staying right next to the Kinabatangan River at Sukau Rainforest Lodge felt luxurious while maintaining the feeling of being in the middle of the rainforest. The villa was clean, the food was amazing, and we spotted plenty of wildlife from the lodge itself. Absolutely recommend to anyone who loves nature and wildlife!

We stayed in a villa which was super comfortable and spacious. They had lots of really well planned actives where we saw heaps on animals and birds (including the big five) Jad our guide always so knowledgeable,attentive,organised and kind. He was awesome

The adventure started the moment we were picked up from our accommodation in Sandakan. Our guide Farhan outlined the day which started with a visit to the orangutan conservation centre. A boat ride to the lodge included encounters with elephants, monkeys and spectacular bird sightings. Our accommodation was better than the pictures on the website. Very comfortable with a feeling of being the only ones there. Farhan shared his extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna including their importance to Borneo and conservation as a whole. The food was wonderful with so much choice available. A major highlight was spotting a wild orangutan building its nest. An unforgettable trip which left us feeling very fortunate to have experienced it. We couldn't have wished for more. A big thank you to Farhan who made it one we will never forget.

Very much enjoyed staying here. I think of all the hotels we stayed in, this was only pipped by Gaya island. Mainly because the room was a bit small and dark, but apart from that the service, activities, and food were excellent. There was a small snafu as we had booked with our travel agent and requested no activities on the 3rd day, but the staff had not got that memo and woke us up for the morning cruise when we had intended not to go. We had a conversation with the staff later and all was well. Thanks to the river tours we managed to see 4 out of 5 of the big 5, including crocs and elephants! The guides were amazing, and they had inhuman eyesight if their ability to spot wildlife from so far way was any judge. the tours did go on a bit though - you can only get excited about birds for so long before you want to get back onto dry land. Be warned if you go on the night cruise - some of the insects are savage! Food is included as there is literally nowhere else to go. It is a buffet set up with some live food stations, with plenty of choice whether you want local food or something more 'western'. There is an excellent selection of drinks and cocktails. Really lovely place to stay for eco-tourism. Recommended.

Sukau rainforest lodge was one of the most unique and beautiful places I have ever stayed. The twin room my friend and I stayed in was very clean, comfortable and lovely! The staff were all so friendly. The buffet meals were very plentiful, varied and delicious. The boat tours were exceptional seeing all the wildlife. You are really amongst nature here. Highly recommend!!
