Shutters on the Banks

I booked through a 3rd party and when I arrived, they had given away my king room w/sofa bed and balcony/patio. They didn't tell me, but gave me a key to a double queen room without a balcony/patio. When I saw the room and notified the manager of the error, she said they didn't have any kings left nor any ocean view queens. When I asked about a discount, she said to take it up with my 3rd party and she couldn't do anything but I could cancel if I wanted. I kept the room since everything around was booked for Labor Day weekend. I called my 3rd party, who called the manager and only then would she offer a 10% discount (she should have already offered that since the room was a much lower quality and inexpensive room than what I paid for). Other than that, everything was great. It's right on the beach with any easy walking path to the beach. Indoor and outdoor pools were nice and especially the indoor hot tub was nice. We played some corn hole too. Breakfast was good and our beds were comfortable. It was mostly quiet, except for one night when a large party was happening at the property next door. We would like to book again, but afraid we won't get the room we paid for again.

Misleading information about the rooms at Shutters on the Banks. I had called ahead and requested a first-floor room with a balcony, as shown online under the “dune view room with balcony” option. However, upon arrival I was given a ground-floor room and told—quite rudely—that their “first floor is the ground level” and those don’t include balconies. When I pointed out the balcony option listed online at the same price, the senior staff didn’t say rooms weren’t available, but instead insisted those rooms “cost more.” This dismissive attitude and contradictory information left a very poor impression.

The hotel felt more like a motel. The lack of amenities did not meet the size of the patrons registered. Washer and dryer for laundry services was lacking with only one each for a huge amount of rooms. A small tight room was used to serve breakfast, waffles, danish, mini muffins, fruit, toast, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, juice and coffee (watered down). The staff were kind and courteous at the front desk. I did like the balcony, but only if you have 3rd floor or higher, otherwise you are looking at a sand dune. The mini fridge was adequate. The beds were comfortable. The ice machine was a walk to the other complex. There was an outside pool, and a room with exercise equipment, which was adequate. I probably won't be staying there again, unless you have children. The plus was a wooden walkway which led to a geo mat laid down on the sand to climb onto (steep initially) not handicap accessible, treacherous for seniors. The entrance to the beach was breath taking and adequate space.

Our family of four stayed here for five days while in OBX. We had an efficiency (full kitchen and dining table) with two queen beds. We all thought the beds were super comfortable. The hotel is older but our room was clean. We loved the daily housekeeping. The property is right on the beach. We loved being able to walk out of our room and be on the beach in two minutes. We enjoyed watching the July 4th fireworks on the beach. They have an outdoor and indoor pool . Each morning, they have a free breakfast with a solid selection of choices (eggs, make-your-own waffles, bacon or sausage, muffins, pastries, bagels, toast, English muffins, fruit, cereals, and more. We ate here for 4 out of our 5 days. It was impressive to watch the staff keep the food replenished and area CLEAN! The staff was polite, friendly and helpful. The location is ideal to all the sights with a plenty of restaurants within a few minutes. My 9 year old and 13 year old gave it a thumbs up. I booked early and received a terrific rate. My wife and I agreed that we would stay here again if we visit OBX again.

We loved the place! The only true negative would be the breakfast, but even that can be forgiven for the DIY waffles available in 2 sizes 😀. The location is perfect. It's within walking distance (or a short drive) to many attractions and highly rated restaurants. The best part: It's on the beach! We didn't interact with staff much nor visited the pool. We came for the beautiful OBX and had a great 3 night stay. Would absolutely stay here again!

Location a 10 , experience a 5! We were so pleased with the location but disappointed with the condition of the building and amenities . Worn furniture , pools and lounge areas not up to par, housekeeping not good , path to the beach was a bit treacherous and so we only went to the beautiful beach just once.
