Kansas City Marriott Downtown

Great hotel. I was staying there in order to attend the Kansas Chiefs game recently.

The best and so beautiful and elegant.

Dated overpriced hotel, many better deals to be had in the downtown KC area. After Marriott acquired Sheraton, they downgraded many members of Sheraton frequent guest program. As a result Gold members even the ones who ended up with lifetime Gold status receive very few benefits. Marriott points have very poor value to begin with. Gold status doesn’t even give you a free breakfast. In this hotel, it doesn’t even give you a free water. At least there was none in the room and no water was offered at check in. I had to find a CVS to get some drinking water. Elevator is weird. You’re supposed to choose your floor on the screen outside of elevator. There are no buttons in the elevator itself. The plaza in front of the hotel is being completely demolished and redesigned. No one tells you about that during the booking. The demolition work starts around 7AM and continues through the whole day, even on weekends. If you want to rest in the room bring the earplugs. Business center is a joke. It has one PC on the hall by ATM with no privacy whatsoever. I’ll stick with Hilton.

Mitchell M. provided outstanding valet service. He was incredibly friendly, polite, and made the experience smooth and pleasant. There was a long line at the valet after a big event, but Mitchell got my car quickly. His professionalism is truly commendable.

It is to the point after 700 nights in the last 8 years I can tell within a few minutes of arrival if this hotel stay is going to be good or not. This one was a series of disappointments. First no e key, you have to park and go in, since I had to go in anyway opt to go ahead and self park, half the parking lot was being power washed so only some spaces open on level one, those who arrive later are about to find out parking will be a nightmare with the closed streets and construction around hotel. Went in 530pm two cues for lines but only one employee, HEY if you had e key this 15 minute wait would not have happened. Finally to check in- do I at least have lounge access? Oh a pipe broke it’s closed but let me give you a breakfast voucher. Since I leave at 6a and returned at 10a this isn’t helpful, and if you want a coffee or tea this requires more waiting in the bar. Gave me the voucher anyway and it went unused. Room was old style and worn. 40 minutes after check in an ekey appeared. You must have some real sketchy clients to go to this level of screening before one is deemed worthy. Really looking forward to downtown KC, moved for second night as didn’t want to get caught with on street parking.

The service at the Marriot was absolutely amazing. The hotel was clean, the food was exceptional, and the staff was absolutely wonderful. So much so that I plan for this to be my primary hotel whenever I’m in Kansas City. Robin was a complete pleasure and was more than accommodating to me and my guests. The type of service he provides goes a LONG way and it made all the difference in my stay!

We had an excellent time. We met Robin ( Bell Captain) who assisted us in a very professional and courteous manner from getting Ubers to informing us with things to do in the area. He was fabulous!!! It is so great to have people onboard to help!

Robin was fast in helping repair a scooter. He was so patient and polite, making our troubles go away! After troubleshooting the problem, the scooter was up and running and we could enjoy the rest of our time at our convention. The problem was our fault for not understanding that the scooter wouldn't run if still plugged in to the charger!

BEWARE. Do not stay here. We booked this KC downtown Marriott and stayed here last weekend for a concert we were going to at arrowhead stadium. I even roped my parents and sister into also booking a room here when they wanted to stay at the Plaza or Lowe’s down the street. From start to finish this stay was a disaster. The hotel itself is in serious need of upgrade. We pulled up and thought surely this couldn’t be a Marriot?! It’s so rundown. The lobby has nasty carpet, some sort of construction happening that they did not disclose to guests ahead of time, and not to mention the $42 parking feed also completely unknown to guests with their stay. On top of the room rate. No one made us aware we would be charged for this. THE ROOMS HAVE MILDEW AND BLACK MOLD. Immediately my husband and I knew when stepping into our room and my sisters room on the 18th floor this hotel was crawling with mildew and mold. We were experiencing wet carpet under our feet when we took our shoes off and everything smelled like an old nasty summer camp shower. We didn’t have time (we were getting ready) to say something or I would have gone back down to the desk to do so. However - By far THE WORST thing about this hotel is THE SERVICE. It is beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. TERRIBLE. From waiting 48 minutes to get our car from the $42 parking they forced us to pay for….or the fact that as a Marriott Bonvoy member they advertise the “Best Rates” and rate matches, yet when we responsibility booked at the beginning of June we paid a whopping $268 for this totally trashy hotel. A week later the exact same room, reservation, and rate had changed to $175??? I called to express my frustrations about this and to see if it could be adjusted since they advertise this…I spent HOURS on the phone being rugged around and tossed from front desk rep, to loyalty rep, to “hotel manager” to their accounting office? Bazar. As a business owner, I’ve never once given my accounting manager the right to decide if a client gets a refund? That’s a mangers job. After days of waiting for a response from this accounting office, I surprisingly received a call back. This woman (the most pleasant part of the whole experience) actually agreed to adjust the rate for us yet told me she would credit it back to me upon my stay and NEVER DID. When I called on Monday and waited 22 minutes on hold and left a voicemail I received no response. When I called yesterday, a rude front desk employee shrugged me off and said that I was only charged the $175 rate and $42 for parking. A bold face lie to get me off the phone. My credit card statement says $268 from way back in June. There should have been a $51 adjustment. If you’ve made it to the end of this congrats, you’re about as exhausted by this as I am I’m sure. Overall, of course it’s not about the money to us. But instead the principle. The horrible customer service, the lack of honesty, the poor upkeep. I’m so put off by brand MARRIOT and any other
