I’m not sure I recognise the hotel from many of the reviews posted here. Yes the place is a relatively quiet sanctuary from the noise and bustle of Kandy centre, but my wife and I thought the food was poor and the room was bland with no view to speak of - we had a suite which essentially looked out over a small rear lawn and trees beyond. The pool area was okay but because the weather wasn’t great we didn’t get to use it. The room itself was comfortable if basic and had limited storage space, with a single cupboard in a room that could have accommodated much more. The staff were helpful and friendly and did everything they could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable but at times they became an intrusive nuisance spoiling any chance of relaxing in the common areas as you always felt you were being watched. With only about 8 or so rooms and quite a few staff they always seemed to be looking for something to do or someone to watch. We had dinner there once which was pretty average at best - not a great ambience and at night not much of a view. The breakfast was okay, but the bread basket included toast that was hard and brittle - a sure sign the bread has been frozen and then placed in the toaster. We did order room service and I can say the chicken burger I ordered was without doubt the worst I had ever had anywhere. The bun was rock hard and the chicken was mushy and tasteless. The food menu was also relatively expensive in our opinion. The standout contribution was from the resident Tuk Tuk driver who took us to the botanic gardens (well worth a visit), and later took us to a restaurant in town for dinner. He was fantastic.
