If you're looking for a romantic getaway into the mountains, Mount Engadine lodge is not for you. While staff were nice and fairly acco - the rest of the experience will leave you disappointed and lacking. To start - there are very few locations at MEL that can even accommodate a weekend couple retreat. While they have several rooms and tents they claim do this - the reality is that it just isn't the case. Every tent at MEL is situated within 2 feet of one another in one long line and you can imagine how much a canvas tent deters sound...(Newsflash - it doesn't). If you opt to stay in one of these tents, you can expect your weekend away to be filled with hearing all the other residents of MEL, their conversations, their pets, and of course their snoring. But not too worry...I'm sure you're thinking you'll get away from all this unintentional eavesdropping at mealtime. Nope. You will be forced to sit with all of the strangers you are sharing the lodge with at each meal time unless you happen to be the one lucky couple that snags the table at the fire. But make sure to call ahead each day to reserve - it's a hot commodity. The landscape around the lodge is very pretty - but the experience you get is essentially just glorified camping as you're sharing such limited space with so many people. The staff are fine enough, the beds are fine, the food is fine, the scenery is incredible and stunning... That is the one great thing about the place....but you're in the middle of the mountains, you can find these views from a lot of places with better experiences. What really is disappointing with MEL is the price. If you were paying 50% of the price - it would be solid. But right now, you end up spending a large amount of money on an experience that is just clearly a step down from what they are trying to peddle you on the website. And it leaves you feeling disappointed, swindled and annoyed. If you're thinking of staying here - there are so many better options around Banff and and Canmore that are just better value and can actually provide you a premium experience - and you'll even be able to have dinner alone without having to share a table with literally everyone else staying at the place you're staying....I know there's a lot of positive reviews for this place - and that's what convinced me to go.....but after staying here, I think it's a lot of people just trying to convince themselves it was great and not a generally disappointing experience.
