My Hawaii Hostel

Great place with amazing people! I’ve now stayed at My Hawaii Hostel twice and have felt at home both times. The current staff (Luna, Kaysha, Chloe, Cello) made my last stay exceptional with their kind hearts and impressive work ethic. The hostel is further from town, but it is worth the extra bus rides and Ubers to stay here! Keep your plans open for adventures with strangers that will turn into your best friends. 🤍

My Hawaii Hostel was wonderful! It was very clean with a fun, friendly atmosphere. The staff were wonderful, and were willing to work with us on a day we needed to check in early. It's also walking distance to a lot of pretty beaches. I would highly recommend this hostel!

My Hawaii hostel is a cute little place near downtown Kona. It is a small space, so it's a very social hostel. I mention this because there is very little space to find a corner for yourself, if that's what you want every once and a while. Upon arrival it was hard to find a person to check on because the "office" is in the kitchen -- which is fine if I'd known! There were quite a few people there so I wandered around until a staffer member noticed I wanted to check in. After that it was smooth sailing. Aside from all that, the facilities were good and staff was very friendly! They do have parking, and there's a stop for the trolley right out front.

Pros: The hostel has a great location in Kona. The free trolley stops right outside and it’s close to many restaurants and shops. It’s clean, well maintained, and safe. Cons: I’ve stayed at hostels all over the world and the staff here is the worst I’ve ever seen. Since it’s a small place there is only 1 staff member on at a time but it’s often hard to tell who that staff member is because they mostly spend their time socializing with guests. They act like it’s a frat house and not a job. At 11 pm our last night, one of the staff members came into our room (where 5 people were sleeping) to show a late check in her bunk. She yelled “Why is the door locked? Who keeps locking this door?” before coming in. She then continued to loudly talk to the new guest like the rest of us weren’t trying to sleep. We also had issues trying to charge our EV rental car. Before getting the car, we asked a staff member if it would be ok to plug it in at the hostel and they said yes. (It was the low level charger with a standard plug) The next staff member to come on shift unplugged our vehicle so it didn’t charge. She wouldn’t let us plug it back in because “electricity is too expensive.” We ended up returning the car and losing money because of this. Bottom line: stay here if want somewhere clean and safe to stay but don’t care about customer service.

Landing at the My Hawaii Hostel was like hitting the jackpot! You never really know what you’re going to find until you show up and I am so very glad I did! The staff are very welcoming and feel like instant Ohana (family). It’s kept really clean and comfy without all the toxic scent smells which is what sealed the deal for me to book and stay. The people drawn here have a unique and divine alignment and for me it seemed there were no chance meetings. I made life long friends in just two days that led to the opening of a beautiful path. Lisday, the very warm and bright soul (who is also a balloon artist) is a real gem of an employee. He helped me feel safe and to trust the flow. If you get to meet him he will for sure bless you up with his hospitality and gregarious ways.

Dopo aver girato da solo per un mese alla Hawaii ne ho viste di tutti i colori e vi assicuro che questo è tra i migliori ostelli di tutte le isole e senza dubbio quello meglio a Big Island. Appena arrivato mi sono subito sentito a mio agio, un ambiente aperto, inclusivo, accogliente, c'era quella cosa che non si può spiegare.. quel mood indescrivibile. La proprietaria è una tipa incredibile, simpatica, gentile e pronta a darti una mano per qualunque cosa, senza parlare dello staff in generale che era fantastico, ragazzi giovani di varia nazionalità che ti fanno subito sentire come in una grande famiglia. Parlando di cose materiali: camere grandi, oltre la media di altre isole, pulite, con aria condizionata e letti abbastanza comodi, insomma c'è spazio per vivere in maniera decente in camera, poi è chiaro che molto dipende da che gente trovate in camera. I bagni sono discreti, non grandissimi ma puliti e tenuti in generale bene. E' possibile fare lavanderia con pochi dollari. L'ostello è sulla strada ma è tutto molto tranquillo. Davanti all'ostello c'è una fermata dei pullman, uno gratuito che ti porta in centro a Kona in 10 minuti, e l'altro se non sbaglio è a pagamento e ti porta in aeroporto, per quello chiedete, io avevo noleggiato la macchina con i ragazzi conosciuti li così da smezzare il prezzo del noleggio. Kona è una cittadina piccola ma molto bella e soleggiata, al contrario di Hilo, dove piove parecchio, ma anche Hilo è bella.. consiglio di stare a Kona comunque e poi spostarsi in macchina per vedere Hilo in giornata. La sera ci sono diversi posti dove cenare, ma anche ballare.. si può tranquillamente sbronzarsi e andare a ballare in qualche locale fino alle 3 di mattina. Tornando all'ostello, rapporto qualità prezzo è ottimo. Dietro alla struttura c'è un piccolo parcheggio per le macchine. Poi insomma quando sarete li vi spiegheranno tutto. Costo uber/lyft aeroporto-ostello è sui 20$. Ho scritto solo una piccola parte di quello che troverete.. quando sarete li vedrete che vi si apre un mondo.
