Matava - Fiji's Premier Eco-Adventure Resort

An absolute amazing resort, beautifully positioned on the island. Our diving group had a wonderful experience with the wonderful staff, Mark, Sue, Ma, Boa, Bill, Ben, Rua, Masi and Thomas. They were very reactive to any issues and sorted them out quickly. These staff are an asset to the resort, lovely, welcoming and truley enhanced the experience. The resort is beautifully basic, nestled in the native bush. We loved our adventures outside of diving especially the village tour where we met more wonderful people. The diving was amazing. Lots of colour, hard and soft corals, fish life and of course we saw Mantas. Thanks to all for making our experience one we will never forget.

Don’t review often, but on this occasion wish to express our appreciation for how well we were looked after by the amazing folks at Matava . Have been home now 2 weeks and every time I hear a drum I’m instantly reminded of the outright delicious meals that were served to us, the best we experienced on our entire trip, thank you Sue Lo and your wonderful helpers. Oh and Ma cocktail of the day extraordinaire. Thanks Bill and Captain Thomas for taking us diving with the Manta’s an amazing days diving, we hope to join you again one day . I have just returned from Kadavu Island where I stayed at the Matava. Wow! What a fantastic experience. Initially I was going to be away for 8 nights at the Sheraton Denarau but I can't just sit poolside and live at the buffet so I said goodbye to the family and booked a flight to Kadavu! I arrived in Kadavu after a 40 minute flight and was greeted by Able who drove me in his ute to the long boat where I enjoyed a 45 minute ride to Matava. The resort is basic but it was just what I was looking for. Super comfy bed, zero light pollution in the night sky, some of the most incredibly beautiful water for kayaking I have ever enjoyed. During my stay I had many highlights. The owner Mark was extremely hospitable and I enjoyed stimulating conversations with him and other guests at communal meals. The food was great and I particularly loved the fact that we were in the middle of nowhere but still had the basic comforts in the bure. If you are into getting out there and kayaking, snorkeling or diving you would be hard pressed to do better than the Matava and the kayaking packages that Tamarillo Active Travel can put together for you. I recommend you take a look at the pictures on this review and if you are inspired by adventure get out there, get away from the typical "could be anywhere" fancy resort Fiji holiday and take the wrapping paper off the lolly and do something new and exciting and get your sense of adventure back!

On ne s'ennuie pas à Matava, j'ai beaucoup aimé y faire du snorkling. La nourriture est variée et digne d'un resto gastronomique. L'hôte, Mark, est disponible et très professionnel. Les "bure" (hutte typique de Fidji) sont très confortables. Il n'y a pas beaucoup de moustiques, mais si, comme moi, vous êtes une proie priviligiée pour eux, pensez à prévoir un répulsif (ps. les lits sont équipés de moustiquaires)

J'ai passé près de deux semaines dans ce véritable paradis sur terre ! Loin de tout, l'air sain, les vues magnifiques, les arbres, les couleurs, les sons..bref, le cadre parfait pour déconnecter de la vie quotidienne et se ressourcer. Et ce n'est pas tout ! Le resort est magique, des petites huttes sorties de terre à la force du propriétaire, très nature et eco-friendly qui ne gâche rien au cadre de l'île "vierge" , que du contraire ! Pareil pour la piscine naturelle, les arbres pleins de couleur. Ce resort a une histoire incroyable et a tout pour vous faire vivre une expérience inoubliable. Sans parler de la nourriture, très bonne et saine, des activités à y réaliser, etc.. Ma fille de 14 ans à adoré et on y retournera certainement !

Matava was the perfect place for our last family holidays. We had the best time ! The food was great they catered for our special needs. The staff was so nice. Semi was so attentive and helpful. The swimming pool is amazing and did great snorkeling.
