Hilltop Lodge and Cabins

Clean room, very easy check-in/out process. I used ******* to book the room and paid in advance. Hilltop sent me a room number and key code for the electronic lock on my room door. All went smoothly. Never even talked to an employee in person thru the whole process. This is a great place to stay for affordability and ease. Window AC kept my room ice cold thru stay despite high 80’s temps and super high humidity outside. Great location in town, quiet, low traffic.

It would be nice if the grounds had some maintenance. Not a bad stay the place just needs a little love. The pictures on here look good but it I was a little disappointed by what it looks like today. The location was good, short walk down to the local VFW for a cold beer.

Website was a bit confusing but figured it out and was able to easily book a room. Received immediate replies via text and email will needed details. Old school style ‘motor court motel’ all on a single level. Made nicely comfortable without completely remodeling. Was in 111 and it was a very large room with table and 4 chairs, fridge micro and coffee maker with a couple pods. You can also use ground coffee if you have it. All guests were quiet and well behaved. Walls thin so you can hear people next to you but not loud, more like a whisper. Occasional road noise if noisy vehicle but otherwise nice and quiet. AC worked great and I slept very well. Great value and is stay again for sure.

What can I say, this place is one that will be talked about for years to come and not for any good reason. Save yourself the time and effort and just book your stay in International Falls at a reputable chain hotel. This place is a cake topper! Sinking and slopped floors, bed jacked up on blocks to compensate for the slopping floors, a bathtub with a massive fiberglass patch in the middle of it, can filled with cigarette butts outside, and an overgrown lawn filled with dandelions and an embarrassing firepit behind the cabins. The owner of this DUMP obviously does not live in International Falls or just does not care at all. Either way, stay someplace else that does care about the quality of the accommodations.

Door code was incorrect in first email. A correction was sent, but I missed it before arriving. I was able to find someone in the office and get a correct code. Room was standard for the price. The wifi was really sketchy. It worked best is you stood in the doorway and faced the office.

We'd stayed here in 2022 and had a good experience. We liked the young couple who had purchased the place. The somewhat crudely renovated bathroom I interpreted as evidence of their commitment to the place and their sweat equity. This year we again booked 2 rooms. The electronic door code provided for my wife's and my room was wrong (a 7 digit code). Our kids got a 4 digit code and got in fine. No combo of our 7 digits provided digits worked. I called and used VM to leave a message as instructed. With no return call, we went to dinner. We got our kids into their room; no problem. I went to the office and rang the bell on the counter as the sign instructed. No response. Written instructions gave more #'s and names to call; Maria, Jana, On-site manager Sam. All VM. It took nearly an hour for an apologetic call with a correct code. I understand mistakes happen; but the backup systems here did not work. Also: Our kids found bottles of water in their room. My wife and I did not. The only bath soap provided was "Pumpkin spice"; my fragrance for the night. And before leaving the next morning at 6:30am, I went to the lobby and there weren't muffins, yogurt, fruit and coffee as had been there the prior year. I see that this place is now billed as a "Self Service Hotel" Be on notice.
