The Golden Lion Hotel

The position of the hotel with views across the Green to the sea and those spectacular sunsets is a great attraction. Our three night stay was thoroughly enjoyable. We opted to forgo a view from the room in order to be on the ground floor. It was excellently refurbished and comfortable. The public rooms (especially the conservatory) are also very comfortable. Restaurant food was good quality and the bar had three real ales (a bonus). Staff couldn't have been more pleasant and efficient.

Cosy room (6) great views , friendly staff, nice bar . Room with big shower was great 😉. Floor creaked a bit and as always those tiny coffee sachets n thimble size milks make an awful coffee 😊but at least it gets you out of your room to go explore 😁.

We stopped for a pint and a wine , sat inside as plastic glasses are used outside . I would have been nice if the option of bringing the glasses back in that we could sit outside but I understand. I thought the prices were a bit steep so after that we found cheaper places .

The Hotel was wonderful from start to finish. We had 2 disability rooms and room 12 as a family group. Staff were so friendly and helpful especially supporting with our elderly parents and sister in a wheelchair. Room 12 was amazing, spacious,luxury room with bath in the bedroom aswell as a large bathroom. Such a great sea view too. We eat in the conservatory restaurant and food was of excellent quality and well cooked, everyone really enjoyed their meals. Waitresses werw friendly and attentive which was a welcome change to some of the places we have been too. Thank you Golden Lion for making our family weekend so enjoyable.

The things that went wrong for us were very minor and could have easily been fixed. But they weren’t and the staff said they did everything to rectify the issues during our stay which is a complete lie . All this made it a stressful stay and not enjoyable nobody is managing the situations that are arising at this hotel so they will keep happening and your rating will continue to decrease its s shame as refurb is good but thats where it ends customer service is shocking .

We visited this pub a few times over a three day stay. It was carnival weekend, so we had a great view when sitting outside in the spacious garden area. The Sunday roast was great. The Yorkshire puddings were huge. The portions were generous, and the food was served piping hot and very promptly. Pureed carrots may not be to everyone's taste. It is advisable to book
