Red Roof Inn Dayton - Huber Heights

The location is very good and the rooms were clean. The key cards worked sporadically at best and the doors in the 2 rooms I booked were very tight and difficult to open. Coffee was only available in the morning which wouldn’t have been an issue had the Tom Horton’s beside the motel not been so outrageously expensive. My biggest issue is not with this particular location, but Red Roof itself. Booked and paid for 2 separate rooms using 2 separate reservations and was only given reward points for 1 reservation. Not only did I not get reward points for my second room but I lost out on RedRoof’s ‘2 stays, 1 free night’ promotion. I’ve been using RedRoof Inn for years, but I’m officially done with them and their games.

So I booked this motel based on the “good” reviews posted by other individuals who have stayed here. That was a mistake! The Motel Building: fairly unappealing square building on the same lot as the Comfort Inn and Tim Hortons Check In: typical check in process with the front desk Indian man (who wasn’t the most friendly person). Thankfully, it was a smooth and quick process. The Room: Walked in and noted that it felt musty. Immediately turned on the A/C, which immediately kicked on. I booked a 2 Queen Bed room (Room 25) and went to sit/lay on one of the mattresses and noted how HARD the mattress felt. I could tell the mattresses were old/springy and the pillows were the WORST pillows I have ever layed my head upon. The Bathroom: the SMALLEST bathroom I have ever seen in a motel room! A bedroom closet seemed larger than this bathroom. The towels were the smallest towels I have seen in a motel room and smelled heavily of bleach. I looked at the tub/shower and noticed the SMALLEST showerhead I have ever seen in my life. Also, I noticed how low hanging the showerhead was on the wall. The water pressure was the WORST water pressure I have ever encountered in my life! *The road noise from the freeway was loud enough to hear in the room, which made for a noisy night and little sleep Do yourself a favor and book yourself a better quality room, but if you are looking for a no-frill, budget room… then this is the place to stay

Room 10 for one night Originally chose this motel based on price and review ranking. Upon driving up, I was slightly hesitant. This is like an old style motel where you park in front of your room. Initially, it looks like a very well–worn property so I was unsure what I'd find in my room. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the door and found that the room had been renovated with a vinyl floor (which I personally appreciate), carpet on either side of the bed, plenty of lighting, phone, TV, fridge, microwave, hairdryer, and hanging space with a luggage rack. There’s another door that opens into a carpeted hallway. Bed was very comfortable had plenty of pillows with different denseness (again I appreciate having a choice). Small but efficient bathroom, nice shower with good water pressure. Very slight residual road noise. Many options for gas and food nearby. Very clean. A safe, economical choice. Recommend it. I would stay here again.

Do not stay at this hotel! I had a one night stay on a Saturday night and checking out on Sunday. At 8AM I had someone open the door to my motel room that connects the the corridor. Luckily I had the security latches engaged or the person would have entered the room. I shouted multiple times "WRONG ROOM" but they still tried to enter. The staff obviously gave an unauthorized person access to my room. I mentioned this to the desk clerk when I checked out and he didn't care. I was offered nothing as compensation. Do not stay here if you value your safety and security.

I went to see a concert at the Rose Music Center and wanted to stay overnight. I chose Red Roof because it cost less than the hotel that was closer to the venue. The Red Roof price is too much for what it is. When I walked into my room it smelled like cleaning chemicals. The AC was off so the room was warmish and dank. I turned on the AC. The window didn't open and the exhaust in the bathroom was struggling (if it worked at all, I'm not sure). I wanted to air the room out. The bathroom door didn't close right. Later I found old take-out in one of the drawers. The TV didn't work right. I wanted to scroll through channels after I got back from the concert and was unable to. One station came in and it wasn't good. There was a cord hanging loose from the TV I wasn't sure where it was meant to go. I just shut it down and went to sleep. The next day when checking out the front desk person told me people unhook it because they think it's a camera?! When I got back to the Inn after the concert I tried going in the front door and the front desk person told me to use the side door. I did and there were two people standing outside the side door and the guy knew my name! I didn't recognize him and he wouldn't tell me how he knew my name. So, that was creepy. It doesn't give a sense of safety when someone lingering by the side entry of a hotel knows your name. Also, the side door was not locked. Anyone could enter, yet I wasn't allowed to enter through the front door. Makes no sense. I gave it three stars because it served the purpose of a place to sleep. However, I would not stay at that Red Roof again. If you're sensitive to traffic noise, it's right by the highway and you can hear it. It didn't bother me.
