"The entrance is right in front of Gora Station, so transportation wouldn't be an issue. Plenty of shops and places to eat around the station, but they close pretty early. The front desk staff can speak English and explained everything clearly, from the type of onsen, the bathing hours, meals, and how to get to our rooms (it was in a separate building). The onsen are great, the outdoor private bathtub is great, but the water cools off pretty quickly in winter. The room is very spacious and they also provide an extra futon. I could do a bit of work comfortably in the rooms while resting. They have a bunch of amenities at the lobby, you could make tea, coffee, get some ice cream and bring them to your rooms. The breakfast and dinner were very delicious. You need reservations for meals since the seats are limited."

"Check in took quite some time as there were many guests checking in at 3pm. The hotel has a western ryokan feel. It has 2 onsens which they alternate between men and women and I suggest going to both. The one on level 5 has a waterfall view. Dinner was buffet style and the variety was great. I super love the fresh Sashimi, the miso soup, the tempura and sushi, snow crab etc. Room was clean and spacious with our own outdoor Onsen bath. Would love to come back."

"Absolutely love this place! The staff are very friendly, and the onsen is clean and well-maintained. There are 3 outdoor pools and 2 indoor pools, along with a steam room and sauna, which make for a relaxing experience. The facility is open for both day trips and overnight stays, but staying overnight is much better for a more chill and leisurely time. There’s a massage chair available, but it requires payment. Breakfast is also delicious and definitely worth it. The only downside is the location—it’s not very convenient and requires some walking. If you’re traveling light, it’s manageable. They do have a payable shuttle bus, but the timing isn’t great. Walking can be pleasant if the weather’s nice, or you can opt for a taxi. Overall, I’ll definitely book this place again for the relaxing atmosphere!"

"The hotel is beautiful and the staff very friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was amazing. Across the street is a beautiful Italian glass museum with a very nice garden and a restaurant that serve great Italian food. The hotel however is in the middle of nowhere and you need to take a bus to get to the closest town 30 minutes away. The taxi is quite expensive so I opted for the bus. If you want to go to see Mount Fuji it is a little an hour away from the hotel with bus changes to be made."

"interesting balinese onsen ryokan. service was great, i couldn’t take raw food and my husband is allergic to prawns and they took notice for it and didn’t serve them during our half board meals (breakfast and dinner). the onsen water is certified to be natural and we could read the details of the certification from both the hotel reception and room toilet. the private in room open air onsen’s temperature can be adjusted as well. however the room’s shower’s door was not completely sealed and we found it very chilly to bathe even tho there was hot water supplied as the constant cold air from outside would come in. hope the hotel can take note of this and seal up the showering area’s door completely to prevent air from exchanging during shower. it’s a jap-balinese fusion hotel, pretty interesting concept. we drove during our trip around hakone area and be ready to navigate through very small and narrow roads while driving to this ryokan haha. really very narrow roads. hotel also requested for us to pass them the car key when we returned to the hotel, and to pass them the hotel key when we are heading out, which we found to be a little weird to be honest."

"I would really love to visit again. So conveniently located at togendai port. Just 5mins walk from back exit. Staff are international and speaks good english. Love the food and free flow alcohol at buffet. I booked private onsen for my family 3000yen for 40mins. Clean and comfortable. There is shuttle bus service from odawara station. Taked abt an hour. Prebook with the hotel for the shuttle bus to and from odawara. It's probably a lil pricey compared to other hotels but it's not the most expensive and I think it's worth it."

"Our stay at the hotel was overall excellent, and we would still highly recommend it, especially for couples looking for a pleasant getaway. Almost everything was perfect—the room was clean and comfortable, the facilities were great, and every other staff member we encountered was polite and helpful. It’s truly a lovely place to spend time together. However, our check-in experience was noticeably unpleasant due to one staff member. She came across as unwelcoming and impatient, almost as if we were bothering her. She rushed through the process and felt quite pushy, especially when repeatedly questioning which language we preferred—even though we tried communicating in both Japanese and English. Her attitude made us feel uncomfortable and somewhat unwanted at first. Aside from this one incident, everything else was wonderful. We hope the hotel addresses such front-desk service issues so that future guests can enjoy a consistently welcoming experience from start to finish."

"This was our second time booking with this hotel. It is one of the most luxurious places we've stayed. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, the toiletries available in the room are great quality, the buffet breakfast is tasty and varied. The private bath on the balcony was really nice after a long, cold day (although it was a little too hot for me to stay in as long as I wanted, wish we could adjust adding in a bit of cold water). If we're ever in the mood to relax again in Hakone, we'll look at booking here first!"

"AMAZING hotel. We booked two nights here towards the end of our two weeks trip and it was the best decision ever! Hotel was very clean and cozy. Staff were very attentive and kind. We could only book this room as this was the only available room at the time of my booking. I'd preferred a different room. But to my surprise I LOVED the room. The view of the mountain and autumn leaves were amazing. Even my husband who couldn't care less about nature and view in general fell in love. He soaked in the hot spring tub 3 times an hour for several hours! We both loved it. We could grab a dvd in the lobby to watch. I grabbed harry potter second and third movies to watch. How relaxing. Dinner and breakfast were delicious! And shuttle service to Kowakidani train station were a huge convenience! Would love to come back and book a different type of room in the future!"

TTim NazarovWe were looking for onsen with private bath on the balcony and probably hit the sweet spot. Unfortunately we had only 1 night stay, but it was fantastic. Onsen is located at the top station Gora, where you can get from Odawara. That’s around 2 hours from Tokyo all together, around 3 hours from Kyoto. Last 2 sections of the way are going through a picturesque steep railway. Views are great! Be sure to rush to the front or back seats (doesn’t matter which) to secure a spot for nice photographs. Private bath is fantastic, rooms are clean and spacious with a touch of ryokan style (tatami etc). That’s a perfect place to sit and relax doesn’t matter it’s sunshine or pooring rain outside. The food was fantastic (according to my wife), however the options are limited if you’re not eating fish or sea products due to allergy or other reasons. For Karaku team - I would suggest adding a signature wagyu set for those who would like something else. Selection of wine and alcohol drinks is superb. Free snacks and coffee are available till 8 p.m. as well with a view terrace. For those who like some regular conbini stuff - Lawson is around 10 mins walk with Miyazaki style trains passing by👌🏻 All in all, we wish we had stayed at least 2 nights as there are lots of activities around.  Thanks to Karaku staff for a warm welcome and tailored experience!

VVieraskäyttäjäI had a wonderful stay at Rakuten Stay Fujimi Terrace! The day before check-in, I received an email with the entrance code, which made the whole process very smooth. The room was exactly as described on the website—with large windows offering an incredible view of Mt. Fuji, the torii gate, and the lake. The scenery alone made it more than worth it. We had eight people staying in two 4-person rooms located on the third floor. One of the rooms was slightly larger and had extra bedding stored in the closet—enough to comfortably sleep two additional people. There were two bathrooms and two toilets in total, which was perfect for a group or family. The main bathroom included a sauna, hot spring-style bath, shower area, double sinks, a washing machine, and a water dispenser. The second bathroom had a separate shower area and a single sink. Both toilets were separated spaces from bathrooms with high-tech with bidet functions and small sinks. The large dining table and spacious sofa area easily seated all of us. We spent many relaxing moments on the balcony, soaking our feet in the warm onsen foot bath, chatting, and admiring the stunning view. The kitchen was fully equipped with a dishwasher, detergent, a large fridge stocked with complimentary drinks, a capsule coffee machine, and a Japanese rice cooker that made delicious rice. The beds were on the firmer side but still soft and very comfortable. It was just a 3-minute walk along the lake to the 7-Eleven, accessible by elevator from the building. The nearby pier was where we boarded the pirate ship cruise, and about 13 minutes further along the lake was the Peace Torii—a fantastic photo spot. Don’t forget to grasp some delicious bread at “bakery and table” before boarding to the ship. After check-out, we stored our luggage in the lockers at Motohakone Port, took the pirate ship to Togendai, transferred to the ropeway to Sounzan, and visited Gora and Kowakudani before taking the mountain bus back to Motohakone to pick up our luggages. There are 4 lockers for suitcase up to 32 inches ¥700, 12 lockers for 24 inches ¥600, and 10 lockers for smaller size of bags ¥400. From there, we had a pre-arranged shuttle take us back to Tokyo. The whole route was smooth and well-organized—perfect for a larger group traveling without a car. Overall, I highly recommend Rakuten Stay!

DDreamniteA beautiful hotel sited beside a nice lake. Very good view and it has a nice public onsen. Service is good, food is good and nice big soft beds. The only bad thing is that it is very far from the major town. You have to drive out for food. Once you buy your snacks and drinks in advance, then it will be all good.

VVieraskäyttäjäThe private onsen service was terrible. Please do not get the private onsen. The receptionist in the onsen does not understand english. The receptionist also did not assist us. The time was also incorrect. We were supposed to have 8-9 and 9-10 slot. But ahe is so confused. And 9:30 they are already knocking our doors calling us to come out. A totally bad experience in the private onsen. The hotel is ok. Food is also good. The private onsen which was supposed to be the highlight of our trip… became the worst. Total waste of money

VVieraskäyttäjäOverall an ok stay. A bit hard to find, very limited English spoken by the staff which led to some confusion (even for the representatives who were assigned to us by English speakers). Felt quite formal and not that warm Room was more or less as expected, and the dinner and breakfast meals were quite elaborate. Felt that breakfast was actually the stronger meal of the two, so wasn’t necessarily worth it to pay extra for dinner. I’d likely skip doing dinner in the future. The room attendant who helped us was very kind and attentive, although we had a bit of language barrier given we don’t speak Japanese. The big disappointment was even though the ryokan is advertised as allowing guests to book one of the larger hot springs on the property for private use for 45 minutes, we weren’t able to do this. We arrived within the designated check in time and were told that it was all booked up for the day. There was no way to book in advance and we were only staying for one night, and they didn’t try to accommodate allowing us to book at all for the next day before checkout. This really hampered the experience overall - we weren’t that interested in using the gender segregated facility (was traveling with my partner who is the opposite gender) as we wouldn’t be able to spend time together, and the tub in our room was quite small. They should amend this policy to allow all guests to book a private hot spring time or not advertise it as part of the room! Feels like we got cheated out of the service and we weren’t offered anything else as an alternative. I would have booked another ryokan had I known this were the case - there are many others in Hakone which are much better value and have nicer / newer private facilities for around the same price. I wouldn’t recommend Yama no Chaya given this was a big part of what we thought would make it a good experience

AANASTASIIA_BERDNIKOVAThis hotel is a paradise in the mountains of Hakone! Traditional style of the rooms - it feels like you are living in a Japanese family. We were prepared a traditional dinner, which was served in our room. It was very tasty and varied! The hotel has 3 onsen: 2 - private, 1 - public. We visited only the private ones (you need to book a time in advance at the reception upon check-in, the visit time is 30 minutes). It was wonderful! The hotel also provides a transfer from and to the nearest train stations. The rooms are clean, cozy, we slept on tatami under soft blankets. The hotel has a relax room. With massage chairs and a very quiet atmosphere. We stayed in this room after visiting the onsen and got great relaxation. And you are also given national clothes for rest and sleep. It is very beautiful and cute. Breakfasts were also in kaiseki style - varied and unusual. The hotel staff is very kind and friendly. this hotel allows tattoo baths. great experience, thank you very much! want to come back again!

Kuitenkin ryokan on melko vanha, ja kaikkien huoneiden sisällä on haju ikä, mikä ei ole kovin mukavaa jäädä sinne. Japanilainen ruoka on hyvin erityistä se on vain henkilökohtainen maku, mutta en voinut saada aamiaista tai lounas siellä. Koska tämä oli kaikkein kalliin “hotelli” matkustamisen aikana 14-day Japanin ympäri, odotuksemme olivat hieman korkeammat. Joka tapauksessa kiitämme henkilöstöä tästä ainutlaatuisesta kokemuksesta.
