This was my worst nightmare. Booking a room online only to discover on arrival that it was not as described. I have booked a lot of accommodation using the various internet based booking companies but this was was my first unsatisfactoy experience. We booked a "studio deluxe apartment with shared courtyard". Firstly let me say it is a good size room clean and tidy close to Constitution Dock. It is also on the ground floor, one and a half metres below footpath and road level. The "shared courtyard" is a one and a half metres wide rubbish strewn passage way which passes all the rooms on the ground floor and leads to the hotel’s café, which is closed Friday, Saturday, Sunday! The room faces onto Davey St which is a 5-lane main throughfare into Hobart CBD. The room has no curtains on the windows only venetian blinds so at night you do not need the lights on to see in the room and during the day you have to keep the blinds partly closed if you want any privacy. If you are further unfortunate, like us, you get room 1 which is directly behind reception, so you hear every person who comes in and out and is opposite one of the doors to the car park. When we raised our concerns with the duty manager we were told “I know you are not happy with the room, but I do not want to discuss it”. Wonderful customer service! The refund policy did not allow cancellations within 48 hours and no chance of moving to another room as the hotel was fully booked. We spent a sleepless night with the traffic noise and bright lights outside. I do not know what the other rooms in this hotel are like or how helpful or otherwise the rest of the staff are, but based on our experience, it does not matter how good the deal or location is – Stay at another hotel.
