I've stayed in hundreds of hotels over the last 50 years in over 70 countries and on every continent. This has to be a strong contender for the worst hotel I've ever stayed in! From incompetent staff, to poor hygiene, leaking sliding doors, appalling food, to untrained and inexperienced staff. Where on earth do you start. I hate to relive it all, but here goes. I arrived not long after 2pm on a Friday afternoon. I was shown my ' deluxe ' room and I was staggered that i was expected to stay in such a poorly run down room! It was mouldy, the bed base had rips and tears, the wardrobe had a few coat hangers all bent and out of shape and the walls were filthy. After not even sixty seconds of staying there, I didn't feel comfortable so I headed to reception to ask for an alternate room. The receptionist informed me I could upgrade for an additional $20. I asked to see the room first. I was shown two and both were shabby and had seen better days. My booking was non refundable on a third party site that i used to book a room. I was meeting my partner and i really didn't want her to think i was putting in no effort for a romantic weekend. The room had a better view from the first room and seemed marginally cleaner initially. I went to reception, paid the upgrade fee and then kindly asked for two wine glasses. The waiter (aged between 15 - 17) brought two whiskey tumblers. So i headed to the kitchen and got given a cocktail glass! Finally someone gave me two dirty wine glasses. I washed them in my room before unpacking my luggage. My partner arrived late afternoon, then the following morning noticed a cigarette butt in the bathroom on a shelf! I couldn't believe it, i really dislike smoking so i called reception immediately. Sivasham, the assistant manger arrived with two other staff members. I showed him the offending item, the rusty fridge, marks on the wall, cracks next to the doorframe, leaking toilet basin and sun lounger covers floating on the pool from my window! He asked would we like an alternate room? We duly looked and at first it seemed a better option. However, like the previous two rooms, it also had problems! We had kindly been invited to the evening buffet as an apology for the incident and problems reported from our first night at the hotel. The buffet was a poor selection of mediocre food. I know it's low season, but that should not be an excuse for poor standards! The staff are mostly teenage trainees, who look petrified if you ask for pepper, a napkin or any condiments. In the end, i gave up and just accepted that it wasn't going to get any better. The following morning, the sliding doors in our room were leaking very badly due to it being raining. The rubber seals could clearly be seen to be defective. I had to place towels on the floor before calling house keeping yet again! A young man appeared with a floor scraper to clear all the excess water that had gathered on the balcony. I asked for new towels to mop up the water on the
