Overlook Lodge and Stone Cottages at Bear Mountain

房間比較小，洗手間更小，浴缸下水很難，基本上可以説是堵的。勝在提供了木炭，可以在客廳點上壁爐，挺有氛圍感的。別墅中，幾個房間隔音效果一般，鄰居的開門聲穿透房間……石頭房子比較有特色，附近的湖很漂亮，森林中的感覺，空氣很好。可能夏天到這裏，更好吧。

Site is located just off of a traffic circle, this makes finding the site a little confusing. The room was 1 of 6 mini suites housed in one cabin with a fire place tables and chairs in common areas. We had no temperature control so we opened a window to combat the heat. Overall, it was a cozy spot for a weekend stay.

I was very excited to go to the bear mountain and they put us in one of the cottages. We'll to my surprise this room was horrid. They had the tiniest bathroom, a spider was in the tub. The bathroom was so small, you have to turn left and right in a tiny circle to access the toilet, sink, tub, and close the door. The door did not open fully because it was blocked by the tiny sink. The shower curtain had red droplets on it that may have been blood. The room had an Emergency Exit in our room that was to be used for all occupants of the cottage in case of an emergency with eight rooms. The green light on the emergency sign kept me up all night.

We stayed in one of the stone cottages. As you would expect given the nature of Overlook Lodge, the room was not up to modern standards. It was tiny and did not have a desk. The bathroom was very small with no place for toiletries. The walls were thin and you could hear people come and go outside. But the scenery and setting are gorgeous. So if you are willing to put up with the inconvenience and not have to spend any extra time in the room it is worth it. The 1915 Restaurant in the main hotel, a very pleasant half mile walk from the stone cottages, was excellent.

After spending some amazing time at the Memorial Tower, with its magnificent views off the River Valley; we returned to the Inn (which we had checked out earlier) and engaged in their afternoon high-tea. The Inn has a comfortable wood-centric interior, which is a surprisingly pleasant complement to the formality of a full service tea. Our server, Shari, was friendly and attentive; lending to the enjoyment of the experience. The sweet and savories accompanying the tea were nicely conceived and quite tasty. All and all, this became a very satisfying afternoon; and along with the earlier spectacular time at the Memorial Tower, made for an excellent start to our 10 day exploration of the Hudson River Valley. The Inn has a nice gift shop, with a decent variety of area related items from which to choose. Any staff members we encountered throughout the facility, were welcoming, informative and accommodating. Even though it was late April, there was a fair amount of activity at the Inn; and as we were leaving in the late afternoon, some event was creating a steady stream of incoming traffic to the parking area. If we are again in the area, a visit back to the Inn will definitely be on our agenda.

We stayed at the Overlook Lodge which was more than a mile from the main building/reservations/staff - up a very long, remote, isolated, rough road. There was no staff on-site and we were guessing we would be the only guest in the whole place (although there were two other cars by morning). It creeped me out. I stopped at the reservation desk to tell them and they said they have staff there on the weekends...but what good would that do for me on a Monday night? I wish their practice to tell guest who book weeknights like me, since I would have stayed somewhere else instead. Also, the bar was closing early because it was the same day they served tea in the afternoon. Oh, well. I bet it is a better place to say in season.

I stopped at this park for about an hour to have a solo picnic. I first went up to the Bear Mountain Lodge. There weren't any signs that stated that no one but "guests" were allowed on the property. But when I went in to the building to check it out, I was accosted by someone working there who basically told me I wasn't welcome because I didn't have a reserved room in the building. I went over to the Bear Mountain Inn, and there are signs posted every where in the building that only guests with reserved rooms are allowed to use the bathroom facilities in the inn. So does that mean diners at the restaurant in the inn are REQUIRED to use the outdoor bathrooms, which are quite a walk away and are in shoddy condition? Then I realized what they were trying to do; they are trying to keep all the city kids who are in group camps from using the bathroom facilities in the main buildings. This seems to be a very ******, agist and elitist policy. You have to pay $10 to park in one of their very large parking lots. And you had better be there before noon because the lots fill up quickly. I don't think I will be returning. State Parks and National Parks are meant to be for the enjoyment and use for everyone. But this "exclusivity" idea in the main inn and lodge rubs me the wrong way. If they want to be "exclusive" and keep all the common people from enjoying the park, then they should turn the place into a private gated resort.

The place surely is situated in lovely surroundings with a view over the Hudson. It is a shame the place itself and facilities are way out of date. Our bathroom faucet is at the verge of breaking off, central lobby lights miss bulbs and plugs. Carpets worn down, woodwork in serious need of painting. Possibly Covid years have weighted heavily on the owners but we hope a loving team can put this place back on the map for future generations to enjoy!
