We have just returned from a 1 week all inclusive stay at the Insula Alba and on the whole we had a great time. But sadly fell short of what we would consider to be a 5 star hotel. To start off with the positives: The staff are fantastic, friendly and attentive. This includes the TUI reps who were enthusiastic but not pushy for people to join in classes. We enjoyed the wine tasting class, guided walk and aqua aerobics. Most staff spoke english or german and always greeted us with a smile. The hotel was spotlessly clean both inside our room and in communal areas. Beautiful reception with a nice scent. We enjoyed the food and trying the different cuisines... if you only want chips and roast dinners then this place probably isn’t for you! The dessert stations were a highlight. We tried some food we had never seen before and it was always fresh. The Culinarium does afternoon snacks including cakes and donuts. Also enjoyed their huge club sandwich! Large drinks menu, although worth noting that even if you're all inclusive not all of the drinks are actually included (only the ones with the house symbol). The indoor heated pool is great for those looking to enjoy a dip away from the sun. Good range of entertainment during the evenings. Loved the silent disco! The piano bar is relaxing and we were surprised that it wasn't used as much as the pool bar during the evenings. Mini fridge in the room was restocked regularly with water, prosecco, beer and soft drinks, including sugar free (coke zero). Tea and coffee making facilities with nescafé sachets, teabags (regular/fruit/camomile). The room included a digital safe, mini hairdryer, iron and ironing board. Also a welcome gift of some Raki. Beds are super comfy. We had a 4 course evening meal in The Culinarium which was delicious. I had read some mixed reviews on this, but we genuinely really enjoyed it and a nice way to end our holiday. Added bonus of an incredible sunset too. Location is good, on the sea front and you can feel the sea breeze. Nice to have a wander along the promenade in the evenings. The hotel has 3 resident cats who loved a fuss and some treats! Would recommend the Spinalonga trip with lunch, fascinating history and insight. Unfortunately there is room for improvement in a few areas: Not enough shade/parasols round the pool areas. This meant you had to get up early to secure a shaded bed. We often found it too hot by around 2pm and would return to our room for shade. We overheard another couple mentioning this to the staff, but there wasn't much they could do. This was the biggest problem as not everyone can cope in the blazing all day sun. There really should be more shade and parasols for the amount of guests. We were sold a "pool view" room, which we assumed was the main pool rather than a dip pool. We had paid extra for this and it felt like we had a worse off room compared to what was advertised/others. Worth noting that there is a beach but it is rocky, you have
