"We stayed 2 years ago and loved it so booked again for 4 nights. We requested a quiet room We were not given the room (6) we were booked for but a dark ground floor room with no outlook and no privacy. The curtains had to be kept drawn all day. It was next to reception with accompanying noise. Despite repeatedly asking for an explanation none was forthcoming. We were told an alternative room was available/ then told it was being used/ then told we couldn’t look at it/ would have to get permission and so on. We were told that despite load shedding ‘everything worked except AC and hair dryers. In truth nothing worked except dim ceiling lights and Wi-Fi. Given the ongoing issue with load shedding surely a 5* venue should be self sufficient. When asked when load shedding was taking place we were told to down load the app! How about putting up a notice. We found the receptionist to be dismissive with a tendency to minimise issues rather than address and deal with matters raised. We felt that there was an issue with reception staffing having been told that someone had been ‘brought in to sort things out’. Staff there seemed to have just started and reluctant to take responsibility."

"This is a little gem of a place. Louise was very welcoming and gave us directions to local amenities. It was in easy walking distance to town. The rooms were furnished as I imagine an old Afrikaans homestead would be with comfortable heavy chairs and footrests - perfect after a day of walking. The dogs and occasional cat were allowed to roam freely and we were often greeted by wagging tails, We had a cosy, private patio area surrounded by colourful flowers.The pool was an added bonus. We would definitely stay there again when visiting Hermanus."

"We stayed at 1 Marine Drove for two nights and could not have been happier with our choice. The welcome was warm and informative - it is rare these days to be shown to your room and all of the amenities available but this was the welcome we received. Secure underground car park, and close to the town - the view is ridiculously beautiful. Breakfast choices were plentiful and the quality of ingredients and cooking superb. We felt very looked after throughout our stay. Everyone is super friendly. We stayed in room 17 which was spacious and clean and again with excellent facilities and complimentary sustainable products. We love the idea of collecting excess water in a bucket for re-use in the garden ! We had no issue with the kettle and coffee machine being outside of the room, it felt like an extension of our space The town and shops and restaurants are about a 10 minute walk away. The coastal path is easily accessible and provides a nice route to walk. We definitely recommend and will return."

"What an experience we had a Whale Rock Lodge. We were greeted with a welcome drink and a very smooth check-in process with a detailed run down of the local area. Staff were excellent and couldn't have been more helpful. The honesty bar is well socked and reasonably proceed. Our room was spacious, clean and tidy and was cleaned each day of our stay. Location wise it is pretty central and just a 3 minute drive from the town centre and 1 minute from the new harbour. There is a real homely feel about the lodge and breakfast each morning was amazing. the selection was excellent and the cooked options were always served as requested and with a smile. My wife and I will definitely be back when we visit South Africa again."

"Our experience was terrible. Bad service, no one around to assist you at night or day. Our baths plug never opened and was never attended to, despite being reported twice. Mold in the showers, one day they never serviced our room at all. They provide a stunning breakfast, but we were never asked if we want toast with the breakfast or extras. They have a stunning bar area, but no one there ever to serve you. When you looked for someone to assist, no one was around. The cushions on the patio with beautiful views were never put out, so you could enjoy this area and the views. This is definitely not a 5 star hotel, at best a 2 star bed and breakfast. The daily pricing definitely too expensive for what you get."
