Windsor Hotel

I stayed here recently for 1 night. The room was a good size, with a fan but no air-conditioning. There was a good range of breakfast options. Staff were friendly. The hotel is in a good location, close to the town centre. I would stay there again.

The Windsor Hotel is located in the wonderful coastal town of Hermanus, the nicest town, with the most to offer in the western cape or Overstrand. The hotel stands on the coast road, just yards from the sea, with wonderful views of the coast, the sea, and the mountains. The Windsor is within a two minute to ten minute level walk of the many shops, bars and restaurants of wonderful Hermanus. Rooms are either sea facing or inland facing, and many have either a private patio or private balcony. The rooms are large and offer plenty of space, with a modern en suite bathroom, with a state of art walk in shower. The rooms have a security box, fridge, large comfortable bed & plenty of wardrobe & storage space. The hotel is fitted with its own generator, which fires up automatically should a power outage occur. A full breakfast is offered, with serials, juices, tea & coffee, cold cuts, and hot breakfast with eggs prepared to order. Staff are very professional, helpful, friendly & welcoming to ensure that your stay is enjoyable. This hotel is highly recommended.

That this was our 4th stay at this hotel says it all and we will go again next year You cannot get a better spot to whalewatch. From your room, the dining room and lounges. Big windows giving you lovely views of Windsor bay directly in front of the hotel, where whales love to play and entertain, right across the expanse of Walker Bay to Danger Point lighthouse and the new harbour to your right. And all along the cliff path just across the road from the hotel So many restaurants, coffee shops nearby. Safe and all within walking distance. The hotel is gracious. Beautiful antique furniture dotted everywhere and a lovely collection of black and white photos recording the history of the hotel and Hermanus Rooms are bright, airy. Beds are comfortable, crisp linen and lovely hot showers. Tea, coffee station in room with fresh crunchies and choccies replaced everyday. Breakfast is included and is enormously satisfying. Lots of choice Staff are super friendly and nothing's too much for them. Anyhow now you know why we just love it there and will never stay anywhere else in Hermanus. We stayed 2 nights in an ocean view room, so the view was amazing. The hotel is situated immediately across from the ocean and a lovely walking promenade. There are lots of comfortable places around the hotel to sit and read or enjoy the view but, sadly, the comfort didn’t extend to the room. Armchair was worn and like sitting on concrete. Patio furniture was the cheapest possible plastic. Our room was supposed to be accessible, but the toilet was extremely low, without grab bars, no hand held shower fixture and no shower chair available anywhere in the hotel. Also several stairs to enter the hotel (although we didn’t ask about alternative entrances. The staff were not very friendly or accommodating. Buffet breakfast only is available in their dining room and it was wonderful. Lots of restaurants available within a 10 minute walk. If this hotel was not booked as part of our tour, I wouldn’t choose it or recommend it.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. Two bathrooms. All the kit you might need ( except a washing machine). Milk, cookies, chocolates, water, coffee, tea. There is a big Gas BBQ. Loads of cupboard space, comfortable beds. Daily maid service. You have access to a private garage. The apartments are very clean and well maintained. Ours overlooked the sea and we sat on the balcony watching whales. Don’t know what else to say really, other than this is an excellent place to stay in Hermanus, handy for the centre.

When booking we asked about wheelchair accessibility and were told they were “fully compliant”. We asked specifically about “grab bars” in the shower and at the toilet and were told they had them. We were extremely disappointed to find that really the only accessible part of the hotel is that there are no stairs to some of the rooms and there are ramps in the passage instead of stairs. That’s where it ended. They advertise themselves as wheelchair accessible but you really have great difficulty getting a wheelchair into the bathroom, no grab bars in the shower or at the loo. They put a chair in the shower on request but my husband couldn’t get in to the shower because he had nothing to hold on to. He couldn’t reach the soap container at the basin, and the mirror at the basin is too high. Our feeling is that they haven’t actually consulted anybody who is actually in a wheelchair and the only thing they thought about was flat surfaces to get to the room. Absolutely nothing else has been considered. Very disappointing.
