Recently returned from a 13 night stay in villa 623 (premium villa with hot tub). It was a fantastic location for the beach and sea. We went straight from our villa into the sea for snorkelling. It felt like paradise, so quiet and relaxing. It was a bit of a trek to the buffet so we got bikes. Then found it was too hot for us to cycle so we used the buggy to get to the buffet by calling 0 from the phone in the villa. The buggy was always really quick and you had to get outside quickly once you’d made the phone call. As a vegetarian, I found the food choices to be really good. There were at least 3 vegetarian curries every meal and other options such as pasta dishes, noodle dishes, salads, pizza ( but only on 2 occasions), potatoes and veg. I absolutely loved the food. The chefs were really helpful and always on hand to advise about the dishes. For breakfast the omelettes were lovely and made freshly by the talented chefs. We were well looked after at meal times by Leon, Lokesh and Moosa. They all went the extra mile and even provided birthday and farewell dinner tables for us. On one occasion we were outside the restaurant waiting for a buggy and Leon went past. He stopped to say hi and check if we were ok. He asked another member of staff to get us a buggy. The service we received in the buffet was amazing and all the staff work so hard to make sure everything is spot on. We had mocktails and cocktails in the Dhoni bar every day (we were all inclusive so wanted to make the most of it) and then we’d walk to the Meera bar along the beach for more refreshments and then back to our villa. The pools at Dhoni and meera always appeared empty or with just a couple of people swimming and there were always plenty of sunbeds in the sun and shade. We didn’t use the pools (even though they’d looked fab) because we wanted to make the most of the sea and can use swimming pools anytime at home. The sea was so warm and clear with amazing snorkelling. We saw so many fish including reef sharks, pencil fish and in one occasion a sea snake! It felt like we were the only ones in the sea, it really was the best experience. We went to the beach bar one lunchtime and paid for cheese toasties and fries. Didn’t realise that they came with fries anyway so ended up with 4 portions of chips on the table! Oops. It was quite busy at the beach bar compared to the rest of the resort so we opted to avoid it and enjoy peace and quiet in the sea outside our villa. Our room was kept spotlessly clean and tidy by Aslam twice per day. Aslam managed to get us what we needed when we found that 2 bottles of water were not enough for us. He also ensured that we had robes and slippers. We sat in the hot tub in the evenings watching the stars and wildlife. The sky was so clear. This resort was a huge disappointment in terms of value for money, especially because of the terrible surroundings. Massive piles of rocks dumped in front of the bungalows to stop the waves look absolutely awful and completely ruin the beach vibe. The bungalows on the western side, where the sea is calmer, are so overgrown and neglected that you can’t even reach the beach — though to be fair, a few spots are slightly better. The snorkeling conditions? An absolute disaster. The so-called snorkeling areas are full of dead, broken corals, and everywhere else it’s nothing but endless sea grass, with the occasional sea cucumber — that’s it. If you’re hoping for a proper underwater experience, forget it. Also all the beach is covered by this grass washed away by the sea. As for the food — after a week, you’ll be sick of curry. Everything tastes overly sweet, and even the fish, which should be a highlight here, is usually bland and disappointing. Compared to our last trip to the Maldives, where every meal was beautifully prepared, this was a total letdown. It feels like a cheap, overcrowded canteen trying to feed as many people as possible with no real care for quality. The restaurants are understaffed, and in the evenings when people flood in, the poor staff simply can’t cope, and no one steps in to help them. It’s chaos. Honestly, this place feels like an overpriced Egypt — and at least in Egypt, you’ll actually see something underwater.
