The Twice Brewed Inn

We ate here on our trek of Hadrian's Wall west to east raising money for our local hospice to purchase a cuddle bed. We had actually booked to stay at the YHA next door as on a budget with our charity walk but you can stay here too We ate here and were not disappointed. Good selection of home cooked food

A fun place to visit on our way along Hadrian's Wall. This is an old brew pub that has been brewing and distilling for hundreds of years. The pub/dining area was cozy and warm, and we enjoyed a flight of tasty ales before having dinner. Breakfast was substantial and the servers and staff very welcoming. We had become used to staying at small B&Bs...know that this is an 'inn', so it's larger-scale and to us Americans the rooms felt more like a budget ski lodge. Very basic but not much more than that.

Great location, lovely food, good service but absolutely the worst night sleep we have ever had! We bad booked several weeks in advance, double pet friendly room. Arrived and checked in and alarm bells should have started ringing when the receptionist told us fans would go off at 9pm. When we got into the room, which was very small but cosy the sound from the kitchen fan directly next to the window was loud! Even with the windows shut the hum of the extractors was constant. We quickly realised when the room heated up, like sunrise in the desert that the radiator was on full! After repeatedly telling ourselves that it was ok, the fans would go off at 9pm, they didn’t and we had to ring reception. Also the blind in the bathroom was broke so there was no privacy in the bathroom when using the shower and toilet that overlooked the car park. During the night after we opened the window the room was ridiculously hot. We went directly above the kitchen so that may have played a part but I was contemplating going to sit in the car to cool off. Despite the awful sleep the food we had in the bar was lovely and service great, and again at breakfast. The packed meal service was a nice touch. In the morning we obviously complained but the receptionist seemed uninterested and we never heard back from the manager. I sent feedback in an email but never heard back. To summarise the worst hotel room I have ever stopped in, which is a shame because it the location was fab. .

We popped in on the off chance for a bite to eat following a walk. Expected pub grub... how wrong were we! Super friendly, welcoming staff, absolutely first class food and all beautifully presented. Tomato and pepper soup and the lightest cheese souffle to start. Followed by venison bourguinon and duo of venison. Even squeezed in a sticky toffee pud and a local cheese board. So delightfully unexpected and utterly delicious. A memorable meal, we hope to recreate next time we're back in the area.

Pictures online do not do this place justice. Curb appeal limited but in side it is a nice place to be. I stayed over night. Comfortable room. Great biscuits! Good choice of ales brewed on site. Good pub grub. It little on the expensive side but you pay for the location. Ample parking. Booking table to eat not essential but recommended.

A convenient place to stay while walking Hadrian’s Wall. We had a very comfortable bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. It was convenient to have dinner and breakfast on site and see all the other walkers who were also walking the wall. It has a warm drying room if needed.

Passed many times but stopped for a late lunch. Staff excellent, fantastic beers, food Excellent, shop and pub lovely inside. Can’t believe we have never stopped until today. Can genuinely say one of the best lunches out for a number of years. Won’t be driving past without stopping again

We went for dinner and breakfast the following morning as we were staying at a local campsite. Dinner was LUSH! Really tasty, well presented with a great choice of their own brewed beer. The service team were really friendly. I'd recommend booking ahead as it was really busy. Breakfast was disappointing though, which was such a shame. Tiny portions of everything in the full english breakfast, plus it had all been clearly sitting around for a bit under heat lamps as the bacon and sausage in particular was really hard and chewy. Didn't set us up well for a day on the wall I'm afraid, but we cycled on with the memory of our great dinner the night before and got a pastie for elevenses.

We called in for a drink after walking along Hadrian’s Wall. Was amazed at the size of the garden area with plenty of seating. The man in the brewery was very knowledgable and helpful and I even enjoyed my very first sour which tasted like a bubblegum fizzy bottle sweet. We enjoyed some sides in the outdoor seating area. They were great value for money and very generous in portion size. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back!
