We stayed with the whole family at the end of December at the Hotel Mayura Shanthala in Halebedu (Karnataka), directly opposite the historic temple complex. The Mayura Shanthala is a traditional hotel run by the Karnataka Tourist Organisation, which unfortunately goes hand in hand with a certain lack of service. The location is great, the restaurant so-so if you don't have high expectations. The prices are moderate. But beware, even a phone call won't help with problems. We couldn't book our planned 3 days and had to spend a day in Hassan.

The location is outstanding, right opposite the Hoysaleshwara Temple. The temple opens at sunrise and charges no entrance fee, so you can wander over at anytime in the day, including early morning before the school parties arrive, and as many time as you like. The staff are very helpful, that is the other good point. Unfortunately, the place suffers from lack of maintenance as is consequently rather run down. A new block has been built but seems to have been abandoned at 95% completion. Perhaps it is waiting for some official in Bangalore to sign a memo (this is a government property, after all). The garden is unkempt which is a shame. There is a nice place to sit for meals in the centre of the garden, and it could be so much nicer. The big trees, however, do attract parrots and even Indian Hornbills, so a bit of wildness can be a plus. Overall, the reason to stay here is the location. It could be so much better and, hopefully, KSTDC will make it so one day.

The property has an excellent caretaker by name shashank. He ensures that u fart a homely treatment. But the property requires renovation like plumbing and electrical fixtures.

Based on its iconic location which is right opposite to the halebeedu temple. This place offers a good stay with decent food. I had gone with my toddler. She enjoyed her stay a lot. It is a must try

The hotel staff are terrible, non cooperative, when i reached night at the place, the staff were sleeping. I had to call them again and again. The room given to us was full of stains, dirty, cigarette smell. It seems some one used, partied before we reached. The staff did not provided water, towel, hand soap. When i asked him he was showing arrogant as though he is doing some favor. the manage never available. He was sleeping in his home and did not bother to pick my calls despite of calling him to inform the same. The ac in room was unserviceable, no fan. I could not sleep. Photo shows good room, but basically it's terrible, old stinky room.. One should not go to that hotel ever.

Property was very good but among the three(3) phone numbers given in booking slip, 1st one was not working, 2nd one( office number )was switched off, 3rd one ( resturant ) was ringing but no one there to pick up the phone, after waiting for more than 30 minutes and knocking the office door so many times ( closed that time) 2 stuff came and handed over the room to me. Ok, i will do.

This is the 2nd time we stayed at this place in the past 5 years....bang in front of the Hoyasaleswara temple ruins....quiet ambience, cozy small restaurant...nice food....lots of greenery...overall an enjoyable get-away...
