The Mallard Hotel

First time visit and will definitely return. Stayed bed and breakfast and had a meal which was Steak Thursday- great value at £20 with a glass of wine. Breakfast the next morning was just what the doctor ordered. Really friendly staff and nice atmosphere in the hotel. Very handy for local golf courses.

A very nice meal served by a lovely staff member who looked after us well. My goodness, im no design guru, but I think the owners do need to decide on a decor theme, though! An impressive space with great views cluttered with random mismatched items, heavy unattractive curtains, and a fake electric fire in what could be a lovely fireplace.

We had a celebration lunch for 20 guests to mark the occasion of our golden wedding anniversary. From first popping in to enquire about the booking, Neil was very helpful and accommodating, explaining everything. We pre-booked the mains, as the kitchen understandably, needed the heads up for our group size. The restaurant staff were so friendly and helpful in making the lunch go without a hitch. The food was tremendous and everyone commented how much they enjoyed it as they took the time to mention it to us as they were leaving. Service, both bar and restaurant, was excellent as well as being unobtrusive and nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be popping in again for lunch when we are in the area. Thank you all for making our visit so memorable.

After what I can only describe as my worst golf round ever, we checked in at The Mallard where I was given a golf course view room to remind me of my worst round ever. Such caring people but how were they to know, and at least I was now only a stone’s throw from their wonderful bar and pain numbing g and T’s. Looks like the place underwent an expensive renovation not so long ago and is staffed but some truly excellent professionals. Even Sweetie who had just choked on the 18th was smiling like a Cheshire Cat as we raised a toast to our winner and joined the friendly locals cheering Rangers on the big screen. Not only does the hotel have a great bar but it is within walking distance of Gullane 1 and 2 and an excellent pub, the Old Clubhouse. While we had pre booked elsewhere for dinner, the menu looked great and breakfast was great.

Dropped into The Mallard today for lunch. We have been a couple of times before. We were attended to promptly by a very nice young waiter who served us our drinks and we decided on the macaroni cheese with garlic bread. We were so disappointed. The small bowl of macaroni was dry and tasteless so we left about half of it, the garlic bread was the same not even warm and was dry. I’m glad we ordered some fries they were fine. So all in all not a good lunch. I think for £14 they could do better. Hopefully they will take on board our comments when we were there.

Had an overnight stay for a golf trip and had been told by friends it was good The bedroom we had was very comfortable as was the bed Our only problem was the size of the shower cubicle which my husband struggled with. We didn’t have dinner there but we had invited friends for breakfast and it was excellent as were the staff. Very accommodating and friendly Won’t hesitate to book again
