Le Grand Almandier

Local hosts were very friendly. However, my room was dark and had very poor lighting and noisy air conditioning. I kept air conditioning switched on during the day. It was switched off at night as it was too loud for me to get a decent nights sleep.

Rooms very clean, staff pleasant. The star of the show is the food at the restaurant… simple but very well done. Not a bad experience. Very safe and rustic feeling . The drive to get there is long but lovely, roads pretty good by Trini standard.

We has a family room which was a fantastic size, beds were comfy, everything was clean, couldn’t have asked for more. The experience of watching the turtles come up on the beach to lay their eggs was just amazing, a memory I will treasure. The food for both dinner and breakfast was excellent, however I would advise you to allow a lot of time for your meals. Food is tasty but good lord we waited so long for it. Breakfast took over 2 hours!!! The servers were very pleasant and smiling constantly and there was tea to make as much of as you wanted but the coffee had to be ordered. Five at our table wanted coffee but only 1 pot came out, we explained how many needed coffee and another pot came a good 10 minutes later. We really needed one pot per person but this never materialised. Also, the bread it seemed, they were baking one loaf at a time! There were 8 of us and a basket of bread would come with 6 slices in it, we would ask for more, wait a good half hour and another 6 slices would come. At the end it was comical to be honest. Lovely experience, very happy with our stay here just allow loads of time to get your meals.

Our arrival was after 8pm on Friday for a weekend stay. There was a nice lady at the front desk waiting for us to complete the check-in for the day. the Hotel felt empty, but I was assured that all rooms were occupied. I got a beach-view room. Customer Service was very good overall. Staff was extremely friendly and try to accommodate most of my requests. Room was OK, it looked clean and organized. It is a extremely tiny space, barely two people can fit. The room was definitely outdated and crying for a renovation. The bathroom also screams for a renovation. However, the bed was comfy and I had a good sleep, specially because the AC Unit worked well (no complaints in this area). The hotel is beach-front, but you cannot find a stand pipe or outdoor shower to rinse the salt water or sand after you have taken a swim in the ocean. The entrance to the beach from the hotel should be more inviting, it is a small gate facing some fisherman's shack. The Main entrance can be also used to go the beach. Sadly, garbage litters the entrance to the beach (which is next to the hotel's main entrance). I know the hotel doesn't own this path, but I would encourage this hotel and the other surrounding hotels to come together and beautify this piece, as it greatly impacts their customers experience. Breakfast was included in the price. Overall it was a good breakfast, no much variety, but choices were tasty. Service was great, but food took close to 25 minutes to come to the table. There was unlimited coffee !!.. For dinner, choices were a bit more sophisticated, but also was the price. There was fish and seafood, but I had a beef burger, that was surprisingly good. Overall, experience was great. I had a terrific weekend. Do not expect a 5-star hotel. It is more a rustic stay, with some amenities and AC Unit in the room.

Our family had been planning to visit Grande Riviere for Turtle watching for some time now, which was postponed due to the pandemic. We finally decided to venture last weekend and stayed at the Le Grand Almandier. What an excellent choice. It's the doorstep to turtle watching bust most of all the staff are extremely friendly and hospitable. Kudos especially to Ms Sheery-Ann and Brenden. Our family of seven enjoyed every minute of the serenity and FOOD. OMG, the dinner and breakfast were excellent. We did not have lunch as the breakfast filled us all.
