The Kellbank

After climbing the scafell pike, we went straight to this hotel. The staffs were really kind especially to the old man. You can really see the passion in his work . The hotel was amazing because it’s clean and well maintained. They also have a restaurant so you don’t have to go outside to look for a food which is really inconvenient idea for those who are tired from climbing. I guess we tried to book for an uber eats, deliveroo etc but they don’t have it in that area. The food was great and they have a free breakfast as well.

We had such a lovely meal at The Kellbank! They were kind enough to fit 11 of us in with only a few hours notice. The food was delicious and they have a great selection of drinks. We were too full for a pudding but they looked incredible. The best thing about the place is the staff, however. They were so friendly and welcoming, especially the fantastic chap behind the bar who has been there for 14 years - I’m sorry I didn’t catch his name but it was also his excellent welcome last year that made us return this year, even though we were staying a 15min drive away.

Comfy beds and spacious rooms. All staff polite and welcoming. Kids loved the park. Location was ideal as we walked up Scafell pike with the car park only 25 mins away. Had breakfast and evening meals and really enjoyed both. Overall a great break.

Nice little hotel. Breakfast good, dinner average. Smell of new paint where I stayed but I suppose decorating needs to be done at some time. Stayed in room 6 and bed very uncomfortable and a very large mirror just left on table and not on wall. Staff were pleasant.

Very friendly and helpful staff, I couldn't fault them. The room was spacious, well equipped , clean and comfortable. The food was really good with generous portions, you will not have room for 3 courses and maybe not even 2!!. For a 3 star hotel it is excellent and we would go back again. I would highly recommend it to family and friends.

1 star food hygiene rating on trip advisor discovered after ending up in hospital with Ecoli from breakfast. On first arrival I was actually given an upgraded room for 2 nights and not the 1 I had originally planned. On the surface all seemed very good. Ordered from the restaurant which despite I feel massively overpriced, also drinks are very expensive but you don't mind paying for quality which is what I thought my first night. The next morning there was a power cut from 8am until 5pm, again something I thought unforseen for them. I stayed the second night and had a full English breakfast in the morning. Five hours later I was in West Cumbria hospital with Ecoli. On looking the Kellbank only has a 1 star food hygiene rating on trip advisor. I believe the power cut the day before affected fridge and freezer temperature, hence food poisoning. There was lovely helpful staff member so I feel bad giving such a bad review. If I had known the food hygiene rating I would never have stayed here or in their sister hotel the Lion and Lamb. Beautiful area but the Kellbank and its issues spoilt my holiday.

We stayed at The Kellbank with our cocker spaniel puppy for weekend. Location was perfect as it was close to really beautiful hikes, which was the reason for our visit to lake district. Place it self was very nice. Friendly staff, clean rooms with enough space for stay with your dog and very nice food at the restaurant. Extra points for delicious breakfast. Overall, perfect place to stay if you are traveling with your furry friends, with beautiful views and quite few picturesque hikes around. Will be coming back again.

I can't think of one positive to say about this place. I have never experienced such a pitiful breakfast offering in many years of travelling. It was truly appalling. The "buffet" consisted of mini packets of cereal, a fruit bowl with two shrivelled apples and two shrivelled pears, all of which remained there for our entire three night stay, a few tubs of strawberry yoghurt and coffee from one of those filter coffee makers, where the "coffee" sits in a jug on a hot plate stewing. The only bread options were packaged sliced bread...it was like being transported back to the 1970s. At the entrance to the hotel, to one side of the front door, there was an old disused vending machine leaning against the wall and a large pile of broken outdoor furniture. The surrounding floor was filthy and rubbish strewn for the duration of our stay. The bedrooms were furnished with very old, very low quality furniture and were just dismal. The bathrooms were ancient, with many broken bits (tiles, bath plug chain, tile trim) and they were unforgivably dirty with the addition of large areas of mould in the grouting. The sink was practically useless as it was very tiny, and had a glass shelf above it which meant you couldn't lean over the sink without banging your head on the shelf. There was a plentiful supply of cobwebs in both the bedroom and bathroom. The astounding thing was that this hotel wasn't particularly cheap. I am astonished that anyone could rate this hotel above one star. I have to visit the area quite frequently and I will certainly never stay here again and would strongly advise others to steer clear.

We stayed in one of two wooden pods and what can I say other than wow. On arrival we checked in with ease and then went to the pod, firstly the views were breath taking. Secondly I couldn't believe how lovely the pods were. Bathroom was big enough to shower and dry comfortably, I've stayed in hotels with smaller spaces. The main part of the pod had all that was needed, very comfy bed and very clean. There's enough room to hang your clothes and plenty of plug sockets which also had phone chargers built in. Tea and coffee supplied along with breakfast menu which was included in our price and dinner menu. The room was spotless and was cleaned daily. Outside were chairs to sit under cover but also somewhere to eat and sit aswell. The food was great, breakfast catered for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diets and had a great choice of cooked and continental. We ate in the evening again catered for all dietary needs. Staff were very polite and helpful throughout our 4 night stay. We visit family who live a 3 minute walk from Kellbank and have previously stayed in other hotels but we will definitely be rebooking a pod for our next visit. Highly recommend
