Hunza Darbar Hotel

The hotel is at an excellent location; on a slope overlooking the Hunza valley. However, it is passed its prime and the rooms/toilets need substantial refitting. The staff seems to be new and do not know much of the hotel. They appear to have several brands of air conditioner and the remote controls were not properly issued to the rooms, resulting to some only able to switch on and off with no ability to adjust the function and temperature. I managed to sort it out on the next morning when the technician brought in 3 remote controls. House keeping was a disaster. They did not enter my room dispute having left the keys at the front desk, asking for cleaning and new towels. I was in the last room of the corridor. My fellow traveler was luckier since his room was further up the corridor near the reception but they still left a bag of rubbish in the toilet. The room was dusty and you can see a layer of dust at the corners of the windows. Serena Hunza just opened across the road. They still have not completed all the rooms and my party was not able to secure our rooms there. In due course, Hunza Dunbar will be very challenged; guest moving to Serena and good staff joining them too. I hope the management will wake up and save this beautiful property. The food in the restaurant was mediocre. On the second night, we went across the road for dinner at a local restaurant.

Abbiamo soggiornato qui la notte che si è appena conclusa. Di fatto non abbiamo scelto noi l'hotel perché faceva parte di un pacchetto preorganizzato. La struttura è molto bella, in mezzo alle montagne, ed essendo tutta a vetrate, da ogni punto si può ammirare un panorama mozzafiato; peccato però che i vetri non vengano mantenuti puliti. Le camere sono belle e spaziose e arredate con stile vintage chic, peccato solo che siano anche che il pavimento in legno sia un po' polveroso. A cena ieri sera non era disponibile la coca cola ma solo la sprite; l'acqua era o fuori dal frigorifero (quindi tiepida) o in un freezer (quindi un blocco di ghiaccio). La prima colazione potrebbe essere più variata ma abbiamo apprezzato le ciliegie fresche e il cuoco che prepara le omelette sul momento. Assegno comunque tre pallini per la fantastica posizione e perché in Pakistan bisogna comunque sapersi accontentare.

The hotel has a good location in the centre of the village and lovely views. It’s probably the best hotel in Karimabad at the moment. We had a good dinner served on the outdoor terrace. The staff are lovely and very helpful, going out of there way to do me a special favour at no charge. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, but poorly maintained. Things like electric sockets which didn’t work and everything looks a bit worn. This didn’t spoil my stay there in anyway, but people wanting luxury will be at the new Serena once it opens next year.

One of the best hotels in hunza, had a classical vibe, 24 hour electricity, fine dining and huge lounge area with glass windows showcasing a wonderful view of the icy peaks. Complimentary breakfast with an expert cook who made the best omelettes and an occasional musical night with diverse songs and dances from different cultures.

The hotel has very traditional decor. Two dining rooms, one for dinner, and one for tea etc. Not very crowded, but nice views out of dining area windows. Prices were decent, and food was average. The chinese chicken sish was not impressive. Will go back for the views.

This hotel is well past its prime and needs a serious overhaul in order to raise its standards. The staff are lovely and the view from the terrace is outstanding - but neither can make up for the dingy feeling throughout the property. Everything just about worked but we felt it could all fall apart at any moment. Even the towels in the bathrooms have seen better days. Karimabad is a delightful town and the views of the mountains all around are staggering. Having made it all the way to Hunza, do yourself a favour and find a hotel that deserves your custom.
