Hotel Namgyal House

We stayed at Hotel Namgyal House as a group of 11 from June 10 to 12, and again from June 13 to June 15 (with a break day in between to visit tourist spots from Lachung. Clean, well-managed, and conveniently located place; excellent if you're on a budget. The hotel is exactly as described, both in terms of location and the rooms. We were initially uncertain about booking based on online pictures since a lot of hotels turn out to be much worse in reality than in pictures. Namgyal House, however, looked exactly as shown on the pictures online and we were relieved to see the rooms and bathrooms. The walk from the hotel to MG Marg takes 5-8 minutes at best, and the uphill climb is for only about 1-2 minutes. The bathrooms were very clean with modern fittings and a water heater that can be used 24/7. The bedrooms were equally clean and had a modern minimalist setup. The double rooms we took came equipped with bedside tables, wall-mounted closet/ cabinet space, a small coffee table and two chairs. Housekeeping was available upon request with no additional charges. Toilet paper availability was an area of improvement in my opinion. When the one in ours ran out and I requested more, I received a half-used roll with one sheet halfway torn. We eventually bought our own toilet paper separately. There was one towel and one tiny bar of soap provided in a double room, which was not adequate. We took complimentary breakfast. The kitchen, dining area and food were clean. The breakfast had good portion sizes, but the options were limited to aloo parathas or luchi with dipping daal and tea on our visit. The management (primarily two brothers) were incredibly helpful from the start. They were accommodative and readily available whenever we had queries or requests, and were professional and pleasant throughout. Just having them as points of contact during our stay was a big relief and I personally wish their business all the very best. I think they might be some of the best in business with the quality of the hotel, their customer handling and competitive pricing. I fully expect this business to grow and outdo competitors in the same range should they continue being as good.
