Shieldaig Lodge Hotel

這是本次自駕遊入住體驗最好的酒店之一，面海灣風景極好，酒店內部佈置了很多古董傢俱值得欣賞，食物也不錯。在酒店外面特地測了一下緯度。

I've stayed here 4 or 5 times now while working in the area. I have never stayed during the summer months as it is a bit expensive for a work budget BUT I have stayed a few times during the months of Oct to March where I find price for a room and an excellent breakfast better than other local hotels! Staff are friendly and helpful and each time I have stayed in a different room - all spotlessly clean and comfortable. My last stay was Mon 28th Oct, I stayed in room 2 - a spacious single. Dinner is a choice of either 2 or 3 courses, I have always chosen 2 course which is more than enough. Great choice for breakfast and all food is sourced locally and cooked brilliantly. I'm back again Middle of Nov for 2 nights, can't wait :)

My wife and I just came back to Shieldaig Lodge for our 4th visit to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had an absolutely fantastic weekend. A huge thank you to everyone at the hotel for looking after us so well and being really lovely to talk to. The building is in great shape and our room was spacious and very comfortable indeed. And as for the food … well, everything was perfection itself from the Tasting Menu, the A La Carte Menu and the breakfasts. Superb ! Shieldaig a Lodge is set in a beautiful part of the country and it’s a pleasure to go out on short or long walks irrespective of the weather. Thanks you all very much indeed for our favourite stay yet and we look forward to returning.

Positives: The lodge is in a beautiful location. Stunning views over the loch. The food was good and the staff were friendly. The restaurant has lovely views. Negatives: The property has seen better days. There was a total lack of attention to detail throughout. Windows were dirty and dusty. Some light bulbs not working. Cushions in the lounge seem mismatched with the furniture. Staff although lovely were a little laissez-faire. Our room was tiny and cramped. The window rattled all night and the wood around the window was rotten. The bathroom was covered in mould. I think with some tweaks this hotel could be fabulous but in its current state we will not be returning. It is not good value for the money it cost to stay there.

Arriving at the Shieldaig Lodge we were greeted by a lovely gentleman who was friendly and looked after us for check in. Our deluxe room no 9 was dated and we felt a little disappointed, the hotel charge a premium for their accommodation and with the added extra of an evening meal the one night stay was in excess of £500, the windows were mouldy and looked like they hadn’t be cleaned for a very long time, the duvet which I asked for it to be feather free was lumpy and had massive areas with no quilting at all, uht milk pods not nice, the room was smaller than expected and the lighting was very poor and some didn’t work, our room was also next door to someone playing their tv very loudly! The bathroom had no room for toiletries and was very small. Dinner was above average but had issues with textures and the pairing of ingredients used in my choice of main course. I choose a vegetarian option which combined a stuffed tomato, stuffed courgette, asparagus and a puree which when combined was very sloppy and just didn’t compliment each other, the whole dish lacked texture, my husband said his venison was okay but not amazing, the Eaton mess dessert was the nicest part of my meal. We finished our evening playing pool in the games room which was enjoyable. We slept okay but the duvet was uncomfortable and not luxurious like you would expect in a four star hotel. Breakfast was once again okay but nothing outstanding, we asked for more butter and hot water to dilute the very strong decaf coffee which took ages to appear, we had to ask 3 times for the butter. The grounds are beautiful but the hotel needs some attention to keep the building maintained and up to a standard that such a stunning building deserves. We left disappointed and don’t feel we had good value for money.

On arrival we were upgraded to a suite which was a lovely surprise and a really beautiful room overlooking the water. Dinner is either 2 or 3 courses we chose the 2 course option which was more than enough. Breakfast was good quality ingredients in a beautiful setting staff were really pleasant - didn’t really want to leave

Having booked Shieldaig Lodge for a birthday stay, I was concerned by recent negative comments on TripAdvisor and almost cancelled at the last moment. I was impressed at the General Manager’s personal response; her appreciation of reviews, her re-assurance on the hotel’s commitment to addressing complaints, no matter how minor, and her personal concern that any guest would have an unpleasant stay. Having spoken to her, as well as exchanging emails, my wife and I decided to stay as planned. We are delighted that we did and that the negative reviews did not lose us a memorable, high-quality experience. The setting is stunning. Our welcome was warm and engaging. The décor, based on recreating a last century hunting lodge personality uses Harris Tweed, in particular, to create an understated elegance enhanced by memorabilia and artefacts. The public area furnishings are sumptuous. Our room was immaculate and well-furnished with a modern bathroom (great shower and underfloor heating). Dining was exceptional, both dinners and breakfasts, based on local ingredients – from scallops to haggis! The wine list was impressive. Staff were efficient and engaging. To run a hotel in such a country area (the Lodge is just off the NE500 tourist route) is undoubtedly a challenge, but Shieldaig Lodge rises to that challenge with style and substance. High quality hotels are not budget-retreats, but the costs here are in line with comparable luxury hotels where we have stayed in rural Scotland. The key of course is value for money. And yes, we had great value here. No hotel can claim the perfection that they and their guests aspire to, but to admit to and address guest concerns, is the sign of a well-run hotel. We will return and would certainly recommend Shieldaig Lodge.

Went for a raptor and owl experience and for afternoon tea. The falconer was ill, though. They tried to get someone else in, but it was not to be. The staff were very apologetic. Afternoon tea was outstanding. We had a room (the library) all to ourselves. They catered exquisitely fro vegetarian and omnivores. The best part was that they provided takeaway boxes, so we didn’t feel we had to overdo. Excellent quality, presentation, and service.
