Les Suites at the Cliff Bay - PortoBay

Local bus stop at door, 5€ taxi trip or 30 minute walk in to Funchal centre. Cliff top sight with fabulous views of town and ocean. Loyalty discount scheme. Off season clients mainly couples over 50. Multiple pools where seats left unused for 1.5 hours have towels removed - a lesson for other hotels!

We went to Reid's over Xmas in 2023 and Les Suites at Cliff last year so are able to make a direct comparison. The first thing to emphasise is that they are both 5* hotels and we would be very pleased to return to either. However, of the two we preferred Les Suites for the following reasons: All the rooms in LS are suites - we had a duplex with two bathrooms and it was approx. twice the size of our room at Reid's. Second, being only recently built the plumbing is obviously much newer and more efficient than some of the rooms in Reid's. For instance our room in Reid's did not have a walk in shower. Third, LS was substantially less expensive than Reid's. Fourth, although the service at Reid's was of the highest order LS though perhaps less formal, was, if anything, even better. To summarise. For those who want to to stay in an excellent hotel with historical significance Reid's would be the choice otherwise, for the reasons outlined above, we would suggest Les Suites.

This property is on a cliff overlooking the ocean. It feels very private despite being located near other larger hotels. Our suite was spacious and split on two levels which gave us a lot of living space. We had our own private elevator in our suite so taking luggage to the bedroom upstairs was not a problem! Hotel staff were helpful and very courteous. This was our first stay in Madeira and I highly recommend this property. It is more expensive than many others, but I think it’s worth it.

There are no words to describe this place. Les Suites is everything you expect when you want to visit Madeira and you're looking for comfort and luxury. The staff, the room, the food... Everything was perfect

Everything was 5 ☆ the New Year Gala dinner was excellent I have already booked for 2025. We had the Duplex suite which was perfect and private. Weather was dry and sunny just a little windy np rai for the whole 7 days. Baskets and gardens a must but not when the cruise ships are in.
