Tides Folly Beach, Charleston's Oceanfront Hotel

Mom and daughter birthday weekend, fabulous location..accommodations were great. We had a room facing the ocean..beautiful views, food was great..service was incredible. Initial introductions when we checked in..we felt like the staff truly cared. They remembered our names, and checked in with us frequently and provided great recommendations. Bill and Jay were fabulous! Our first time visiting...we will definitely be back!

Don't like doing bad reviews so I'll try my best not to be neutral. If your eyes are closed to everything but the sand and sea, the Tides is a perfect spot. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Cold AC, hot shower. Valets, staff, management were all friendly and helpful. Every room has an ocean front view. It's an older hotel on the beach. That environment makes it tough to maintain. Still, no excuses for some of the flaws. TV - sound but scrambled picture. You could listen but not watch. Phone that didn't work. Cocktail table with a broken leg that they tried to repair with a piece of wood and visible screws. Did that affect our stay, no, but come on .... for $400 - $500 a night, you can afford to run to WalMart and get something functional. Balcony, with NO chairs. Rough guess, maybe a third of the rooms had chairs. Extremely small pool. If you don't get up early to save chairs you're out of luck. Massive, beautiful beach but we like to spend time at the beach, then sit by the pool sipping cocktails after. Not happening. Factor in an almost $20 resort fee with taxes. There's zero resort amenities. The worst for last ...... the first night one of the two elevators was broken. We were fortunate to wait a conservative 15 minutes for an elevator. The line behind us, at least twenty people deep. Day two, they fixed the elevator! Problem was the other elevator was down all day! Felt bad for valets and staff. They did their best to apologize but apparently this is a regular issue. We booked a three night stay and bailed after two. Factor in another $75ish per night for resort fee and taxes. Fairness to management, we didn't report any of the room issues. Maybe they would've moved us or replaced the TV, etc.. It's a great location and you'll pay a premium for it. For comparison, we're Hilton members and stay 30-50 nights per year at various locations. We've never experienced any of the above. And we've stayed at plenty of beach resorts for comparable or less money.

Excellent experience. We stay yearly for a family get away. The staff is AMAZING. We are treated year after year by the most amazing staff possible. Jay (who remember you for life) is the best! Harrison helped us get our luggage unloaded and up to the room. On a day with 70+ check-ins - we were made to feel as though we were the most important people there. Cookies at night and Starbucks Coffee on location in the mornings - I don’t know how you could want much more! 10 stars! Keep up the GREAT work!

The Tides is the perfect place to stay on Folly Beach. Beautiful hotel, access to the beach, pool and all the comforts of home. The staff if exceptional, super friendly and helpful. We will be back again next year!

Extremely expensive for what it is, I guess they think they can charge for the location only. Multiple things in the room are rusty, don’t think the finishes are “beach friendly” as the floor has been slightly damp the whole day and smells a bit mildewy. No bedding was provided for the pull out couch, had to wait to be brought some. AC unit is very loud. The door to the pool couldn’t be opened without slamming your entire body weight into it, many pool loungers have holes in them. Overall just seems a little outdated and in need of many repairs. Just expected a lot more for the price.

Great stay! But if you are a luxury traveler, or somebody who prefers the vibe of seaside Florida, this will probably not be what you like. But it is right on the beach. The staff is amazingly, friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable the restaurant and coffee shop were great. They had really fun live music in the evening. The pool is basic but there is a little pool side bar and food available. All in all we had a good time it was right there on the Little Main Street area of Folly Beach that has some casualbeach bars, but this is an older building and really just not a luxury type of hotel but check all the criteria for a fun beach vacation.
