Angler Apartments

Don’t come here if you want glitz and glam! But you MUST come here if you want a true Bajan experience. I LOVED staying at Anglers.. My apartment had everything I needed and anything else I wanted was readily available. Chandra is a lovely, charming, witty hostess who cooks the most AMAZING breakfast omelettes. I’m sooo looking forward to enjoying her hospitality again!

Enjoyed a very comfortable and quiet stay in traditional chattel house close to lovely beaches opposite the Cliff restaurant. Perfect location and apartment for travellers on a budget in St James Barbados Highly recommend and will return Thank you for looking after us Chandra & Christopher Regards Iain & Debbie

WARNING! This place is a scam! The owner has no shame, she knows very well that this place is a ruin: pillowcases and beach towels torn with age (TORN!), dripping air conditioning, broken furniture (so old!), too small and old sheets (the mattress is sooo old and dirty), problem with hot and cold water, bathroom and kitchen light is like from 70s, doors not closing properly, this is a good one: $6 for using TV😂 (in places half cheaper I had netflix, youtube and hundreds of channels, including HBO). These rooms have not been renovated since the 1970s! I haven't seen anything like this. I took a lot of photos. Why am I writing such a crushing review and not feel sorry the owner? Because she is a person who doesn't care about anything but money! I booked this place just 1 day before through airbnb and the owner did not receive payment 3 hours before check-in, so she yelled at me on the phone that I should have found her outside of airbnb!!! And that she will not accept us if she does not receive a transfer from airbnb or cash from us. Finally, the money I paid through airbnb probably came to her because she accepted us. She's a trickster, something terrible! I report this place where I can. I hate writing bad reviews, but if the internet was invented for something, it's to warn you about such experiences. Angler has not been renovated for many years. I understand that the owner may not have financial resources, but if she was an honest person, she would rent it for as much as it is worth to people with a modest budget, max 30 USD per night, but for God's sake not around 120 USD (price from today from different portals)! It's not the first time I have been to Barbados and I know that for a few dozen dollars a day you can have a charming studio or a small house in a great location, where everything is sparkling, well-kept and without faults, which are countless here. And finally, if you think that this place is where the map shows, north of Holetown at Horny Ram Bar (that tempted me to book this disaster, I wanted to be close to friends) then this is a mistake. It is located over 4.3 km south near Paynes Beach. Only when you enter the address manually, you will reach proper destination. Good luck finding that hole in the taxi. I saw that the owner answers any critics in a very agressive way. Well, that’s her style of running business. Im so happy that I will never visit this place and I hope I will save you guys from this sad and stressful experience.

The Angler Apartments proved a welcome surprise to Covid-stressed travellers such as ourselves. The property is owned and run by Chandra and is a haven dedicated to nature and old-fashioned values. Tucked back peacefully amidst the sprawl of this modern and bustling tourist island, the apartments are a mere two-minute walk down to a small but essentially private beach. Most of the accommodation has been built into what was probably an old meeting hall dating from – I’m guessing here - the 1930s. The buildings nestle amongst unexpectedly lush and beautiful gardens dominated by tall and shady trees (mango, tulip and ackee). These are home to a myriad birds – chirruping grackles, parakeets, hummingbirds and the endemic Barbados bullfinch, and also - to our great delight - a family of green monkeys. A modest breakfast is available - not included - but we preferred to sit on the verandah or on the lawn watching the birds in the early morning light. The interior of the room is adequate but by no means luxurious. There is, however, everything one could need, but if - unlike us - you require marble floors, a digital kitchen area and all mod cons, then you might do better to try somewhere more upmarket, concrete, characterless and impersonal. If you appreciate old-fashioned Caribbean values and a distinct sense of attachment to the relative simplicities of the past, then the Angler Apartments will suit you down to the ground.
