Newly redecorated and refurbished -Classic Fire Island Beach Cottage and Guest House (sleeps 6-8). Perfect summer getaway for a family or group of friends that prefers bare feet, bikes, and an uncrowded beach. Steps to Ocean and Bay beaches, ferry, and “downtown” Fair Harbor stores and restaurant.. Newly renovated this off-season. Three bedroom (1 w/king, 1 w/ queen and 1 w/ e twins, + queen air mattress) , two bath (1 w/bathtub) , large deck, screened in porch, and spacious outdoor shower. Washer/dryer, dishwasher, smart TV, wifi, barbecue, A/C in all three bed rooms, and a full selection of beach toys, towels, umbrellas, surf and boogie boards etc. Surfers (or folks that want to learn to surf) are especially welcome. Host was communicative, check in was easy. He left a handy beach cart for us to use. The area and neighborhood was lovely, everything you could want or need was nearby. Unfortunately, the property was spartan and rustic and run down. It was very dirty and it is doubtful that any area of the household has been cleaned for some time. There was not only sand and dust on the surfaces and on the floor, I also found a cigarette butt on the floor (we had alerted the host before hand that there would be young children in our party). There was sand in the bed and the sheets were musty. There were used towels in the bathroom, used soap bars, etc, old toothbrushes scattered about, etc. There were shorts left in the outdoor shower and a damp wetsuit in the in-law suite. There was apparently a washer and dryer on the premises but perhaps it was around the back, and made inaccessible due to a flooded yard. Also fairly sure there were cockroaches in the kitchen. We were there only for a short time and wanted to enjoy ourselves so didn't want to make a fuss, but will not be returning.

This was a great location in a beautiful place. However the house is cluttered and very dirty with what appears to zero care or maintenance. All of the owners belongings are everywhere. Broken dishwasher, smelly bedrooms. Not a comfortable stay.

Location was very close to ferry and to the beach. There were accommodations like usage of bikes and others when the weather was still bit cool for the beach. Host was nice to offer meeting at the ferry with a wagon to help with belongs and such. Would book it again.

Relaxed to the max This Fair Harbor cottage is on a great block with dune grass all around. The central rooms and screened porch are charming, vintage Fire Island, boho-surf style. The tiny kitchen is not easy to work in, and very disorganized, so you’ve got to put ideas of cooking like you’re used to aside and get into beach shack mode. This place calls for you to relax your expectations. It’s not very well maintained, there are traces of past renters everywhere, including trash, and debris so we did quite a bit of rearranging and tidying when we arrived. It’s great to have a separate room out back. The outdoor area is run down and swampy but you can have a good time hanging out in the house and at the beach, letting your cares slip away.

Great beach getaway Ideal location in Fair Harbor! Beautiful beaches, sunsets and slower pace the minute you get off the ferry. House has all the essentials including fabulous outside shower along with plenty of rainy day games and reading activities. We had a great stay! Michael was a great host, providing helpful info ahead of trip and accessible during our stay as well. Check-in/out could not have been easier

This house was probably nice once This house is not as pictured. Surfaces were littered with the owner's deodorant and cigarettes, a tattered blanket, and filthy throw pillows; the silverware, glasses, and pots and pans were caked with food; there was sand in the sheets; dirty towels and washcloths still hung in the shower and on the backs of doors. We lifted the grill cover and found a rotting raw hamburger. He sent a cleaner, who left the job after putting in a couple loads of wash. We came back from dinner to find the sheets still wet in the washer and had to make up the beds ourselves. This house needs a deep cleaning, inside and out. The kitchen sink empties right into the yard and coffee cups and orange rinds float in the muddy water that surrounds the house. I could go on. This was our first disappointing VRBO rental.

Michael is an excellent host Michael is an excellent host. The house is as advertised - 3 bedrooms, one of which is disconnected from the main house. We very much enjoyed the enclosed patio and the outdoor grill. Michael keeps the house well stocked with towels and pretty much everything else that you need. The only reason for the 4 star rating is that this is an older house, so it is a bit run down, particularly the kitchen. Bug spray is also a must as bugs do get in the house.

Great little beach house Our second stay in Michael’s Fire Island house was as good as our first. We loved reading on the porch, sipping cocktails on the deck and (of course) the easy walk up to the beach. I don’t want a beach house with a millions bells and whistles — just a place to shower off the sand when I’m done swimming and a decent bed for sleeping. One piece of advice: Pack your bug spray.
