The Bay Filey

My wife and I have been going to The Bay since 2019. My wife went 5 times one year, so suffice to say we like it. It has gone through a few changes over the years but the general format has always been the same and it hasnt changed really. Hence i couldn't see any value in reading through acres of small print when I booked our latest trip. It cant change that much, can it? On first arrival we noticed the washing machine had a big sticker on it saying it was broken and they were aware. This wasn't ideal as we were there for a week, but as a couple it wasn't really a big deal, but what if we had a baby or small children? Next I noticed there were no towels, no hairdryer for my wife, not prosecco glasses (if your there for a celebration, but I agree, not an essential item) and no internet. Again I can only imagine the response if you arrived with two teenage children, with tablets in hand. The phone signal is also poor. I was on holiday, but it was feedable I might receive a phone call from work if something important happened, well i was pretty much incommunicado. Some might say that's all well and good, you go away for a break. We were in a luxury beach hut just outside Filey, not glamping in the Cairngorms, internet is essential for many people now. In actual the fact the few times i have been in glamping pods they have had internet. I went to reception and spoke to a lady there. Apparently they knew nothing about the washing machine, (I told them it was likely they were waiting for a spare part and it was on a slow boat from Korea or Italy, it never did get fixed). I asked why the property had been rented out with a broken machine, no answer. Apparently they don't do towels anymore but they can be hired. They claimed most of the accommodation didn't have internet. Apparently the people who own the property's cant see the value in it as they don't personally benefit, make of that what you will. We have probably stayed in 20 property's over the years at the bay and we have never had one without internet. So no help or solutions from reception, lots of 'sorrys' though. Not as sorry as i was having to drive a 4 hour round trip home to pick up towels, glasses (it was my wifes birthday that week) and her hairdryer. Good bits? Its still near the beach. The food in the onsite pub is really good, but the bar prices are eye watering, £6.80 for a bottle of alcohol free Kopparberg/Rekorderlig. There is a Wetherspoons next door in Primrose valley, if that's more your style. So if you are going and haven't been for a while, be warned there are changes. Personally i wouldn't book through Away Resorts, I would go Airbnb, that way you know exactly what you are getting.

My family and I have been visiting the Bay at least once a year for the last 5 years. Generally we like to stay in a superior cottage but this time we stayed in a comfort cottage due to peak holiday time and costs. It was a lovely spacious house (2 big bedrooms, a bathroom, toilet downstairs, large open plan kitchen/living room and outdoor area)- we stayed in 3 sunrise drive. My young boys love being able to visit the pool and activities daily, I use the gym and we appreciate the pub/restaurant on site. We visit Scarborough, Filey town and local animal parks etc if the weather isn’t great, all great and very close. Of course our favourite part of the site is the easy access to the beach, which is amazing and no matter the time of year.. never feels crowded. The site always seems so clean and staff are helpful. I have recommended the bay to so many family and friends who have visited now and also love it. Can’t wait to return, my 5 year old has had the best time again and said he enjoyed it more than our recent holiday to Greece. It is so relaxing and has all the comforts you need.

A lovely holiday resort with a range of houses and beach chalets all tastefully laid out. We booked fairly late so obviously our choice was limited. The house we booked needed a little tlc to bring it up to 5 stars. The stairs carpet was very worn and the outdoor furniture needed either oiling or varnishing. The outside stair rail was a bit wobbly. Inside the house was well equipped. Some of the tv remotes were not working and I was not prepared to purchase batteries myself. Otherwise we had a very nice holiday. The beach is in walking distance. The pub is expensive for drinks but we sat outside on a couple of occasions and had a drink. Overall a good place to holiday with children.
