We are just back for a two night stay at The Belted Will Inn and a thorough tour of the local area's Roman ruins and artefacts. Firstly, The Inn does not open until 5pm on weekdays, so don't get there too early! We were welcomed, despite arriving early (3pm) and given the option to go to the room but we decided on a quick visit to Birdoswald Roman Fort a few miles up the road to give the kids a bit of exercise after a long drive. On arrival back at the Inn, we were very happy with the large family room we had booked. A large double bed and separate bunk beds with flat screen TV, Excellent tea and coffee facilities, very clean room and comfortable. Very impressed. Only thing lacking was somewhere to hang your coat! We had our evening meal at the inn as well and the food was excellent. So good, in fact, that we ate there on our second night too. which was a Friday and a special fish and chips menu which was very good, in fact, probably the best fish and chips I have ever had! Book though, as the pub is very busy on Friday nights. Our hosts and their bar staff were very welcoming and friendly, giving us great advice on the local sites and where to visit. Plenty of options behind the bar although only one of the three hand pumps was in use but the Wainwrights on Keg was very good. Our teenage boys especially liked the pool and darts board and juke box (sorry other patrons! ) Breakfast was also very good with a full hot breakfast menu and fruit, cereal, juice and yoghurt set up on a table. Overall a 10/10 trip. highly recommended.
