Astra Falls Creek is wonderful. Located in a great area and very peaceful. Amazing connection to nature. The food options here are great as well. Fantastic place to stay and dine. The staff is very courteous and friendly. Such a splendid experience.

This review is about Bert the boot fitter who works in the hotel through winter. #skimetric I had the most terrible experience! Bert insulted & intimidated me, and reduced me to tears. I have wide feet & poor circulation. I asked for a boot that would give me warm feet, was wide at the toes & low at the back, as I get bad calf pain with high back boots Bert fitted me with high backed boots. I had extreme pain in my calf. I reminded him that I asked for a low back boot to stop calf pain. He did not like this feedback. He did not listen & refused to change the boot. He had to grind ithe back of the boot to relieve the pain. The boot was also too tight, my toes were scrunched up & in pain. He blew it out a couple of times but then said my ski technique was causing my issues & that I should get private lessons to fix my ski technique so that my boots don't hurt me. What? I had one day of skiing left after the boot was finished. The boots did not feel good. I had poor control, like I was floating. I still had pain in my calf muscles and my toes felt tight. Bert had told me that because that the boots were handcrafted, they would feel different but I would get used to them & not only have the best boot ever, but also a great improvement in my skiing. So I left full of optimism and looking forward to pain free skiing in the boots that were hand crafted for me. 2 weeks later I went back to my home resort to ski. I did not get used to the boots as Bert said. I felt like I had no control in them, I had bad pain in my calf muscles and my toes were squashed and bruised (see photos). I could not finish skiing my week. In January 2023 I went to Canada / USA for a ski vacation. The boots were torture. I went to a boot fitter at the first resort that I stayed at. He looked at the boots and and my feet. He told me that I had been sold MEN's boots that were ONE SIZE TOO BIG. No wonder I felt like I was floating in them. He said that no work would fix the problems that I was having with these boots. He also said that men's boot tend to be high at the back, but women's boots have a lower cut as women tend to have larger calf muscles and would get pain if wearing a mens boot. Interestingly, he also said that this was not the first time he has had to modify Skimetric boots. Bert boasts that he has 100% success, but I feel people are too scared to give feedback. I know this because when I gave feedback, he belittled and intimidated me, and blamed my ski technique rather than the boot and his work. Also of interest, the Canadian boot fitter had equipment that was almost exactly the same as Bert's (Bert boasts that his tools are unique and his trade secret) but newer. The Canadian bootfitter ended up fitting me in a pair of women's ski boots that are made for wide feet and my correct size. They only required one blow out at the toes. The Astra staff have been friendly and helpful from the time I started booking and needing to cancel due to Covid lockdowns. This season we finally made it and we really enjoyed our stay. We had a room on level 3 with the lift operational to all floors but choose to take the stairs most times. It was great to be able to sit in the bar lounge even when they are closed. It is a comfortable area with a fireplace and good to get a spot early ahead of the crowds coming in. I used the spa a couple of times and it was a relaxing experience. Getting off the slopes and being able to have a sauna, steam room, magnesium pool and spa aided recovery. The ski locker room was large and drenched gear dried overnight. Bed was comfortable and there was plenty of storage space for our clothes.
